Waiting On Wednesday: The Velvet Cloak Of Moonlight

'Waiting On Wednesday' is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking The Spine. It spotlights upcoming releases we're eagerly anticipating.

This week's pre-publication 'can't wait to read' book chosen by me is:

Title: The Velvet Cloak Of Moonlight by Christina Courtenay

Expected Release Date: 7th October 2016
Publisher: Choc Lit

(From Goodreads)

"As the velvet cloak of moonlight settled over the ruined towers of Raglan Castle, the shadows beneath them stirred ..."
When newly widowed Tess returns to Merrick Court, her husband's home, it's to confront her past head-on.

But during a visit to the nearby Raglan Castle, an extraordinary hallucination transports her to a past that existed long before her own - to seventeenth-century Wales and to a castle on the brink of a siege.

Even when Tess leaves Raglan, the strangeness continues as her life becomes increasingly intertwined with her dreams and visions. And when she meets Josh Owens, a stranger from New Zealand, the parallels become even more obvious.

But perhaps the voices from the past are simply trying to tell their own story or is it something more...

Why am I waiting for this book?
As a book reviewer, I like to stray slightly away from what I normally read and this book has piqued my interest. Although it is a contemporary romance; one of my usual genres, it also has a time-travel element that intrigues me. Another plus is the setting...The UK, so it'll be nice to read something from my home country for a change. The author Christina Courtenay is new to me, so that's an added bonus.

Waiting On Wednesday: To Love And Cherish by Lauren Layne

'Waiting On Wednesday' is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking The Spine. It spotlights upcoming releases we're eagerly anticipating.

This week's pre-publication 'can't wait to read' book chosen by me is:

Title: To Love And Cherish by Lauren Layne

Expected Release Date: 8th October
Publisher: Pocket Books

(From Goodreads)

Sex and the City meets The Wedding Planner in The Wedding Belles, a contemporary and witty romance series about three high-powered New York City women who can plan any wedding—but their own.

Alexis Morgan has spent the past six years devoted to turning her tiny start-up into Manhattan’s premiere wedding planning company, The Wedding Belles. Now that her business is thriving, it’s time to turn towards her much neglected personal life, and Alexis approaches her relationships like she does everything else: with a plan. Not a part of that plan is Logan Harris, the silent partner in the Belles, and the one person who’s been there for her since the very beginning. But Alexis needs someone fun, and Logan’s all business, all the time—except when a late night at the office ends with an unexpected kiss that leaves the usually cool and together Alexis reeling.

Logan has lusted after Alexis since the day he walked into the tiny Harlem apartment that used to double as her office. But the ambitious wedding planner has always been untouchable...until now. Alexis has made it clear that she’s on the dating market—and equally clear that he’s not in the running. But when Alexis finds herself in need of a date for her sister’s last minute wedding in Florida, Logan knows it’s the perfect time to show Alexis that there’s more to him than numbers and spreadsheets—and beneath the pinstripes and glasses lies a hot-blooded heartthrob. As Florida’s sultry days turn into even hotter nights, Logan’s out to convince Alexis that the fling of a lifetime could just maybe turn into forever...

Why am I waiting for this book?
I'm a big fan of Lauren Layne's because she writes well-crafted protagonists that are intelligent and fun. She is one of my few go-to authors because she consistently writes books that I enjoy; I haven't been disappointed by anything of hers...yet! This particular book piques my interest because the hero is British. As a Brit myself, I'm often left gutted when a non-British writer doesn't manage to nail the Britishness of the protagonist(s). The fact that this book is a romantic comedy and I find the author's written humour funny bodes well, especially as I don't tend to find American humour laugh out loud funny most of the time. So my expectations are high and I hope this one hits the spot!

Ruby and Ethan were perfect for each other. Until the day they suddenly weren't.
Ten years later, Ruby's single, having spent the last decade focusing on her demanding career and hectic life in Manhattan. There's barely time for a trip to England for her little sister's wedding. And there's certainly not time to think about seeing Ethan there for the first time in years.
But as the family frantically prepare for the big day, Ruby can't help but wonder if she made the right choice all those years ago? Because there's nothing like a wedding for stirring up the past...

Why am I waiting for this book?
The second chance trope is one of my favourites, so the blurb immediately caught my attention. Also, I love the cover. As I mainly read romance novels, it's refreshing to find new books that catch my attention without a bare-chested, tattooed hot guy adorning the cover. I'm hoping the male protagonist is a 'normal' guy...one that doesn't have a body like a Greek god! Someone that's more relatable in real life! LOL!

Talented chef Meg Delaney hasn’t spoken to her cheating ex-fiancé, Matt Midland, for two years. Ditching him at the altar after blurting out “I can’t” instead of “I do” would sour any relationship. But now, just as Meg is finally ready to bury the hatchet, she learns closure is permanently off the menu. And the kicker? Matt’s brother, Kyle, is back in her life, stirring up feelings that are equal parts guilt and lust.

Meg was the best thing that never happened to Kyle. He couldn’t make a move on his brother’s girlfriend—even if Matt didn’t value her nearly enough. The situation is even more complicated now that Meg’s bestselling aphrodisiac cookbook has spawned a legal battle with the Midlands. Maybe he should stay away. But love, like family, plays by its own rules. And the one woman he shouldn’t want might be the only one who’s perfect for him.

Why am I waiting for this book?
The plot sounds intriguing!  I don't have a problem with two brothers who have had/ now have a relationship with the same woman. It happens. I've never understood girl code/ bro code when it's mentioned in books.  As far as I'm concerned, as long as the two people are single and available, then it shouldn't matter.  As family plays a part in this book, I'm looking forward to seeing if her ex, his brother is part of the reason for the legal battle...can't wait!

People think they have Camille Logan nailed: daddy's girl; beautiful, spoiled young woman with her father's bank balance to fund her lifestyle. But Camille is determined to have a life free from his strings. Out on her own, she's made mistakes, including one that found her clawing her way back after a stint in rehab and plenty of bad press. Now, after fighting so hard to be independent and happy, she finds her life threatened as a result of her father's ruthless business dealings. Caught between resentment and fear, Camille prepares herself for the measures her father will take to protect her. But nothing could prepare her for the ex-SAS sniper who crashes into her life.

Jake Sharp resides in his own personal hell. He was distracted from duty once before, and the consequences were devastating--both personally and professionally. He vowed never to let that happen again. Accepting the job of bodyguard to Camille Logan isn't the kind of distraction from his demons he should take. Women and Jake don't mix well, yet protecting the heiress seems the lesser of two evils. But Jake soon discovers that she isn't the woman she's perceived to be. She's warm, compassionate, her presence settling, and his duty to protect her soon goes deeper than a well-paid job, no matter how hard he fights it. He needs absolution. He comes to need Camille. But he knows he can't have both.

Why am I waiting for this book?
I've never read any books by Jodi Ellen Malpas even though plenty of people I know within the book community have. Secondly, despite being British, I don't read many books by British authors, a fact I want to change. So, I've decided to give this one a read when it is published rather than look at previous publications by this writer because as a reviewer I don't have the time to commit to reading a full series or trilogy. The blurb appeals to me, so I hope it lives up to my expectations.

Waiting on Wednesday: Swear on This Life by Renee Carlino

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking The Spine.
It spotlights upcoming releases we're eagerly anticipating.

This week's pre-publication "can't-wait-to-read"
book chosen by me is:

Swear On This Life by Renee Carlino
Expected Release Date: 9th August 2016
Publisher: Atria Books

When a bestselling debut novel from mysterious author J. Colby becomes the literary event of the year, Emiline reads it reluctantly. As an adjunct writing instructor at UC San Diego with her own stalled literary career and a bumpy long-term relationship, Emiline isn’t thrilled to celebrate the accomplishments of a young and gifted writer.

Yet from the very first page, Emiline is entranced by the story of Emerson and Jackson, two childhood best friends who fall in love and dream of a better life beyond the long dirt road that winds through their impoverished town in rural Ohio.

That’s because the novel is patterned on Emiline’s own dark and desperate childhood, which means that “J. Colby” must be Jase: the best friend and first love she hasn’t seen in over a decade. Far from being flattered that he wrote the novel from her perspective, Emiline is furious that he co-opted her painful past and took some dramatic creative liberties with the ending.

The only way she can put her mind at ease is to find and confront “J. Colby,” but is she prepared to learn the truth behind the fiction?

Why am I waiting for this book?
Last year after reading the blurb for Renee Carlino's Before We Were Strangers, I instantly wanted to read what sounded like an incredibly intriguing book. The result? I was completely blown away by the narrative, which ended up being my favourite book for 2015. Whilst the blurb for Swear On This Life doesn't have the same impact for me, the fact it is written by this author makes me want to read another of her books. I'm eagerly anticipating if this will be in my top five reads for 2016?

Waiting on Wednesday: It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking The Spine.
It spotlights upcoming releases we're eagerly anticipating.

My "can't-wait-to-read" pre-publication book for this week is:

It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover
Expected Release Date: 2nd August 2016
Publisher: Atria Books

(from Goodreads)

Lily hasn’t always had it easy, but that’s never stopped her from working hard for the life she wants. She’s come a long way from the small town in Maine where she grew up. She graduated from college, moved to Boston, and started her own business. So when she feels a spark with a gorgeous neurosurgeon named Ryle Kincaid everything in Lily’s life suddenly seems almost too good to be true.

Ryle is assertive, stubborn, and maybe even a little arrogant. He’s also sensitive, brilliant and has a total soft spot for Lily; and the way he looks in scrubs certainly doesn’t hurt. Lily can’t get him out of her head, but Ryle’s complete aversion to relationships is disturbing. Even as Lily finds herself becoming the exception to his no dating rule, she can’t help but wonder what made him that way in the first place.

As questions about her new relationship overwhelm her, so do thoughts of Atlas Corrigan, her first love and a link to the past she left behind. He was her kindred spirit, her protector. When Atlas suddenly reappears everything Lily has built with Ryle is threatened.

With this bold and deeply personal novel Colleen Hoover delivers a heart-wrenching story that breaks exciting new ground for her as a writer. Combining a captivating romance with a cast of all too human characters, “It Ends with Us” is an unforgettable tale of love that comes at the ultimate price.

Why am I waiting for this book?

Colleen Hoover is one of only a few 'go to' authors I follow. The narrative is always exceptional, as is the writing. You always know that when you pick up one of her books it is going to hold your attention the whole time. A book that once you start, you can't put down until you're finished. Yes, I have high expectations for It Ends With Us and I feel confident it'll be one of my favourite books for 2016.
