New Release Spotlight: Meant To Be Mine by Lisa Marie Perry

Loving him was hard. Wanting him was so damn easy . . .
Sofia Mercer may have been sick as a teen, but she’s no delicate flower. And she’s proven it by making it on her own and starting a new life away from the town that turned against her, away from the boy who broke her already fragile heart. But when her aunt Luz dies unexpectedly, leaving Sofia with a mountain of regrets and the keys to a quirky boutique, Sofia has no choice but to return to Cape Cod. Only, this new life in her old town comes with complications.

Burke Wolf was Sofia’s first love—a relationship that burned bright and went up in flames. Seeing him again, Sofia can’t help but get caught up in that all-too-familiar tornado of passion and pain. He’s battled his own demons—that much is clear. But Sofia can’t afford to be careless with her heart . . . and loving Burke again might just break it completely.

“The scar,” she said, taking control of a situation that had her feeling as though she were disconnected from gravity, “is here.” Taking his hand, she placed it between her breasts. The gnarled and knotted scar tissue tingled at his pressure and heat.
“Sofia…know what you’re doing?”
Glancing up, she found him watching her. Closer than even his touch was his gaze on hers. It might’ve singed her, if she weren’t so cold to begin with. “I’m showing you my scar. You’re going to look with your hands, not your eyes. Okay?”
“Okay,” he said solemnly, taking what she could spare.
“And it goes down, like this,” she continued, guiding his hand along the path of the scar. Heat built, curling the edges of the old hurt they’d caused each other.
He put her arms at her side, said something against her ear.
“Full circle?” she echoed.
“We went from me just wanting to sleep with you, to being friends, to hating each other.”
Burke’s hands skimmed her neck, found her shoulders, traced her scar. One hand, then the other, then—oh, God—his fingers splayed and he cupped her breasts.
Sofia felt her eyes slide shut as he squeezed her flesh, but they opened again when he teased her nipples and drew a moan from her bourbon-flavored lips. She’d never known trouble could touch her like this, make her feel like this. “You’re back to just wanting to sleep with me? Is that all you’re after, Burke? Because if it’s not”—her arms swung out to hook around his neck—“then we haven’t come full circle at all.”

A red-hot holiday

Pro
football publicist Martha Blue has something to prove. To protect the image of
the Las Vegas Slayers—and stay employed— she has to shed her party-girl
reputation. Fast! So no more mistakes. No further scandals. And absolutely no
falling for the one man who can give her everything she wants…and nothing of
what she needs.

Danger and
desire never mixed well for undefeated prizefighter Joaquin Ryder. A friend of
the Blue family, he’s a man who knows his boundaries…boundaries he has secretly
crossed only once before. Now that he’s back in Sin City to train for the
biggest fight of his career, he can’t afford to let a sexy distraction like
Martha put him against the ropes. Revisiting their sizzling past is something
he isn’t willing to risk—until a steamy Yuletide encounter, where for just one
night, they’ll surrender completely….

My current reading indulgence is Christmas themed romances and this sexy story by Lisa Marie Perry definitely hits the spot! I've read Just For Christmas Night as a standalone novel.

Martha is the epitome of the kind of heroine I love to read about. She's strong, determined, independent, but has a rebellious streak too. Underneath the surface, we see that there is much more to Martha than meets the eye. The party-girl reputation castes a shadow over her pro-football publicist job with the Las Vegas Slayers, which Martha uses to her advantage. She's secretly studying for an MBA. One day she hopes to prove to her parents that she is more than capable of taking on a more high profile position within the family business – with a lot of persuasion.

Joaquin, is from the wrong side of town, rescued by his Uncle and raised to become America's undefeated super middleweight boxing champion. He's back in Las Vegas for his next fight, the NFC championship match-up. He didn't expect four year old unresolved feelings for Martha Blue to resurface when he returned “home” from Miami. He's swore off women after his gold-digging ex-fiancĂ©e tried to trick him into getting pregnant – aiming to secure a large financial settlement. As a prizefighter and shrewd business investor he's solely focus is on winning, not women.

When Martha and Joaquin are together it's like electrical ping-pong. Both wanting so much, but not willing to give more than the minimum - Devon prepares for his fight with Eliáš Brazda and Martha is standing up to her self-righteous parents, whilst rescuing a teenager and becoming her foster mom.

In the end, these multi-faceted lovers find their HEA on their own terms. Proving there is more to them as individuals and also as a couple than the gossip that surrounds them.

3½ Stars

Lisa Marie Perry encounters difficult fictional men and women on a daily basis. She writes contemporary romance fiction with plenty of sizzle, energy and depth. Flawed, problematic, damaged characters are welcome. Her tales feature exciting multicultural mash-ups, sexy guy-next-door heroes and powerful larger-than-life alphas who are brought to their knees by the love of complicated women.

According to Lisa Marie, an imagination’s a terrible thing to ignore. So is a good cappuccino. After years of college, customer service gigs and a career in caregiving, she at last gave in to buying an espresso machine and writing to her imagination’s desire. She lives in America’s heartland and she has every intention of making the Colorado mountains her new stomping grounds. She drives a truck, enjoys indie rock, collects Medieval literature, watches too many comedies, has a not-so-secret love for lace and adores rugged men with a little bit of nerd.
