I can't wait for...Darkest Night by Tara Thomas

Can't-Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted here, at Wishful Endings, to spotlight and discuss the books we're excited about that we have yet to read. Generally they're books that have yet to be released. It's based on Waiting on Wednesday, hosted by the fabulous Jill at Breaking the Spine. If you're continuing with WOW, feel free to link those up as well! Find out more here.

I can't wait for…

SHE THOUGHT SHE’D LOST HIM FOREVER
Tilly Brock has learned—the hard way—how to take care of herself. Once a pillar of Charleston society, her family lost everything in the wake of a shocking scandal. And then Tilly lost the only boy she ever loved.

BUT NOW THAT HE’S BACK IN HER LIFE
Keaton Benedict is Charleston’s most notorious bachelor. But in spite of all his advantages—the money, the women, the family name—he longs for more: the heart of the young woman he still can’t forget.

THE DANGER HAS JUST BEGUN…
When Keaton re-enters Tilly’s life, after all these years, she is torn between feelings of doubt and desire. Can they put the past behind them and learn to love again? Tilly is willing to try. But Keaton is afraid that a vengeful enemy is watching—and waiting to destroy them. Can the rekindled flame of their love defeat the deadliest rival and light their way forward in the darkest night?

...because?

Over recent years, I've tended to stick to contemporary romance novels, with the occasional romantic suspense and historical books every now and again. In 2018 I plan to vary what I read a little more and more with suspense at the top of my list. This first book, by a new to me author sounds intriguing and I hope is the first of many.

Releasing 30th January 2018

IN THE LINE OF FIRE.
Former SEAL Malachai “Mac” MacCarrick is all about the future he’s created with his Navy brothers in Eagle Securities, taking assignments in the most dangerous places, and doing things no one but ex-military would attempt. But when an urgent phone call brings his troubled past—and the woman he once loved—into the present, it’s a chance to redeem himself that he can’t refuse.

STRAIGHT TO THE HEART. . .
An investigative journalist researching an explosive story, Delaney Shapiro tells herself she got over Mac—and his role in her brother’s death—a long time ago. But the first moment she sees him at her bedside in an overseas hospital, she knows it’s not true. Every moment together rekindles the desire that once burned between them, and now that she’s a target for an emerging Russian arms dealer, Mac won’t let her out of his sight. To protect her, he’ll risk it all—including his life…

...because?
This book is the second one in the author's Love Over Duty series.  I thoroughly enjoyed Under Fire when I was recommended it and at the time the author was new to me.  I have high expectations for this one and hope it's a five star read too.

I've read a few novels by Denise Grover Swank and always thoroughly enjoy them. Her writing style always keeps me engaged and a second chance romance is one of may favourite tropes.

Forever Mass Market Paperback; $7.99; 9781455539819; November 28

First love is better the second time around.

Matt Osborn had no idea coaching his five-year-old nephew's soccer team would get him so much attention from the mothers-attention he doesn't want now that he's given up on love and having a family of his own. Yep, Matt's the last of his bachelor buddies, and plans on staying that way. That is, until he finds himself face-to-face with the woman who broke his heart.

Single mom Anna paused her life in England to help her father recover from an illness. She can't afford complications, and too-hot-for-his-own-good Matt Osborn-her almost former fiancé-is definitely a complication. He's a reminder of what might have been-or should have been. That irresistible pull between them isn't over. Not even close. But if she's not careful, she'll break both their hearts . . . Again.

I can't wait for...Sugarplum Way by Debbie Mason

Can't-Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted here, at Wishful Endings, to spotlight and discuss the books we're excited about that we have yet to read. I'll admit, I'd not heard of Debbie Mason until I'd read the first book in her Harmony Harbor series last year.  Her small town, cosy novels are not something I choose to pick up, however, I was looking for something different and surprisingly (to me) Mistletoe Cottage hit the spot.  Since then, I've read the following two novels and Sugarplum Way is book four.  All can be read as standalone novels, yet there is an ongoing thread which adds a slight paranormal feel to the proceedings.  Again, this isn't something I'd choose to read, but somehow I've thoroughly enjoyed this series and really looking forward to this next instalment.

SUGARPLUM WAY
by Debbie Mason
(October 31, 2017; Forever Mass Market; $7.99; Harmony Harbor series, book 4)

Romance writer Julia Landon knows how to write a happily-ever-after.  Creating one for herself is a whole different story.  But after a surprising—and surprisingly passionate—kiss under the mistletoe at Harmony Harbor’s holiday party last year, Julia thought she might have finally found her very own chance at true love.  Until she learns her Mr. Tall, Dark, and Broodingly Handsome has sworn off relationships.  Well, if she can’t have him in real life, Julia knows just how to get the next best thing…

Aidan’s only priority is to be the best single dad ever.  And this year, he plans to make the holidays magical for his little girl, Ella Rose.  But visions of stolen kisses under the mistletow keep dancing in his head, and when he finds out Julia has written him into her latest novel, he can’t help imagining the possibilities of a future together.  Little does he know, though, Julia has been keeping a secret that threatens all their dreams.  Luckily, ‘tis the season for a little Christmas magic.

When I first began reading e-books on my iPad, my focus was Historical Romance and Romantic Suspense.  Over time, I've tended to read more Contemporary Romance and neglected my first loves. However, in recent months when I've been in a reading slump, not knowing what to read next from my vast TBR, I've turned back towards what I used to love as a means to cleanse my reading appetite. The shift has been more towards Historical but this book by Rebecca Zanetti looks like a perfect novel to rediscover the joy of suspense. -Lynn (Ellesea)

"...she's impressed by...his vast library."
How can I not be tempted by a heroine who loves books and reading? The author is new to me, so I hope I discover a new writer to follow.  Although, this is book three in a series, I have it on good authority No Other Duke Will Do can be enjoyed as a standalone novel.

Release date: November 7

Julian St. David, Duke of Haverford, is barely keeping his head above water in a sea of inherited debts. Though he has a long-term plan to restore the family finances, his sister has a much faster solution: host a house party for London's single young ladies and find Julian a wealthy bride.

I don't usually pick up YA/NA novels however the blurb for In Pieces intrigued me. I can't wait to dive in to find out what happened to Beth and how David comes to her rescue.

IN PIECES
by Danielle Pearl
(October 10, 2017; Forever Trade Paperback; $14.99; Something More Series Book 2)

Three years ago she was left in pieces…

Most college freshmen love the newfound freedom of living on campus, but none of them craves it like Beth Caplan.  One ill-fated night when she was fifteen left her locked in a posh prison of private tutors.  It’s for the best, everyone said, and maybe it was.  But after years of hard work and healing, the one person who never thought of her as broken could be the one to break her all over again.  And Beth can’t seem to stay away now any more than she could all those years ago.

As soon as David March learned his best friend’s little sister was enrolling at his school, he promised to look after her, and promised himself he’d keep a safe distance.  But the sweet little girl he’d grown up with has transformed into a gorgeous young woman, and she’s attracting attention from people she shouldn’t—like the ex who nearly destroyed her and a strange new student with a disturbing habit of showing up wherever Beth goes.  But for David, the most troubling discovery is realizing that he doesn’t just want Beth to be safe.  He wants her to be his.
