Blog Stop with Excerpt: Surrender by Violetta Rand

Devil’s Den # 1
By: Violetta Rand
Releasing January 27th, 2015

Welcome to the Devil’s Den, a Texas strip club where the air is heavy with desire—and sometimes dreams come true.

Ever since her mother kicked her out, twenty-year-old Robyn Gonzalez has been working the poles at the Devil’s Den, saving up to finish college and travel the world. With only her wits and her gorgeous body to rely on, Robyn has learned to be independent—fiercely independent. She’s never been tempted to let a man distract her from her dreams . . . until she meets the dead-sexy Garrick Dempsey.

The club’s new head of security, Garrick had walked away from a career as a mechanical engineer to return to his roots in Corpus Christi. He hadn’t planned on getting to know someone like Robyn, with her sinfully sweet combination of vulnerability and strength, at the Devil’s Den. She acts tough, but only because she’s been hurt. Soon Garrick knows he will do anything to win Robyn’s trust. And if that means surrendering to the red-hot chemistry between them, all the better.

I hear a commotion and bolt upright. I rub my eyes. Someone is running toward me. I stand to get a better look. A woman drops to her knees near the back of my truck.

Coming up fast behind her is a guy. I don’t like this shit. I round the front of my vehicle and check out the girl. She’s breathless, but all right. She looks up at me with the prettiest eyes I’ve ever seen. I’d chase her . . . but not like this.

What’s going on?” I ask, intrigued by the situation.

As soon as the little fucker challenges me and makes a move at the girl, all of my instincts spark to life. I taste blood. I won’t let anything happen to her. If she wants to be left alone, I’ll help her. I tackle him with a wrestling maneuver I learned in high school. He squirms at first, then goes slack. I’m holding him by the throat to prove my point.

I’m giving you one chance to walk away,” I say dispassionately. If he wants to challenge me . . . I’ll break his legs, simple. “If you don’t, you’ll crawl. Understand?”

Once he leaves, I study the girl. She’s visibly upset, but finally gazes up at me and smiles. She looks like she just stepped out of Maxim magazine. Big blue eyes, full lips, and thick, curly black hair cascading down the small of her back. I’ve never seen her before. Not at any of the clubs I frequent. I can’t help noticing the shape of her slim thighs through the thin material of her warm-ups or her breasts—I look away. Not the right time to ogle.

Thank you,” she whispers. “Very much.”

She doesn’t need to thank me. I’ll help any woman in distress, old or young; it’s the way I was raised. Texas boys do it right. I smile. “I’m Garrick.”

She eyes me for a long minute and says, “Robyn.” She stands up. She moves toward me. “I mean it,” she says. “If you weren’t here . . .” “It’s nothing.” I feel sorry for her out here all alone. It’s too dark and dangerous for any girl, especially one that looks like her.

Can I take you somewhere?”

My car is half a mile that way.” She points at the pier.

Come on.” I’ll stash her in my truck. The fish aren’t biting anyway. “I’ll give you a

She nods, and I walk to the passenger-side door and open it for her. “Your chariot.” I gesture for her to climb in.
