Book Blogger Hop: 6th-12th April 2018

The Book Blogger Hop was originally created by Jennifer from Crazy-For-Books in March 2010 and ended on December 31, 2012. With Jennifer's permission, I relaunched the meme on February 15, 2013.

Each week the hop will start on a Friday and end on Thursday. There will be a weekly prompt featuring a book related question. The hop's purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to your own blog. 

Question: Do you overextend yourself with too many reviews because you can't pass up a book in hopes you will get them all done or do you carefully plan and be sure you can fulfill the deadlines for all the promised reviews? (submitted by Elizabeth @ Silver's Reviews)

Answer: As a blogger, I aim to be professional. Therefore I make sure that I meet the expectations of the author/publisher/PR company. I dislike declining books but missing a deadline isn't an option. I've worked hard to get access the titles that are available to me as a reviewer and I wouldn't like to lose that privilege or trust. I use Google calendar to plan my blog and reading activity around my life in general. It works for me.

  1. I use Google calendar too and I'm with you about wanting to be professional and not missing deadlines, so I only accept books I'm 100% sure I can review.

    I am like you, and if I make a commitment, then the book will be done by that date. You are correct that the publisher, author, PR company depends on us to be professional and responsible.

  3. I currently write everything down and try to figure out if i'll have time to read before the deadline before accepting. I will admit, I've gone pretty wild requesting as of late and now i'm in a tough spot but OH WELL. Live and learn.

    1. I know that feeling from how I managed my blog when I first started out. I was nervous about switching away from writing everything down on paper, but I got used to it and it works well for me.

  4. I completely understand what you mean. When I take on a review request, I fully intend to meet the deadline if one's been specified and agreed upon. I'd hate to let down authors or publishers or requesters because I can't complete a review in the time that they want it to be completed in, though I have had some issues with reviewers thinking I can read their book in a day along with reviewing another 5 that I've accepted. Sometimes it gets hectic!

    1. Yes, it can get hectic and some indie author expectations are very unrealistic. I'm planning my reading up to three months in advance but do leave gaps for the occasional last minute review, but sometimes I say no and decline requests.

    1. I began blogging in a chaotic fashion but quickly realised writing everything down on paper didn't work for me. Thankfully, against my initial scepticism, I've embraced Google Calendar and it works well for me. Thanks for stopping by.
