The
touching and heartwarming fourth novel in the wildly popular Not
Quite series from New York Times bestselling author Catherine Bybee.
Romance
author Dakota Laurens believes that happily-ever-afters exist only
between the covers of her sexy novels. But to her surprise, she finds
a real-life hero when she meets a handsome emergency room doctor. The
outspoken author feels an instant and intense attraction to Dr. Walt
Eddy, and the feeling is mutual. When the globetrotting doctor pulls
a disappearing act on Dakota, she’s prepared to write him off…until
fate brings a blindsiding twist to her story.
Still
scarred from a past tragedy, Walt may have disappeared on Dakota, but
now he’s determined to win her back. For the first time in years,
he knows he’s ready for a new chance at love. Yet between Dakota’s
doubts and two sets of meddling parents, can the once-blissful couple
finally create the bright, loving future they desperately want?
The
author is new to me, so this book was read as a standalone. I didn't
feel any loss by not having read the previous three books in the Not
Quite series. If anything, I'm wanting to know more about the
supporting characters and their stories because Catherine Bybee
certainly knows how to write refreshingly interesting and believable
protagonists.
Dakota
Laurens is a sassy-mouthed romance writer who's attending a romance
writers convention in Miami. A Lakers cap catches the attention for
Dr Walt Eddy and he can't take his eyes off the beautiful woman
sitting at the bar, who was wearing it. Their eyes meet momentarily
but all to soon the owner of the gold-sparkling brown eyes is gone.
Walt
doesn't have to wait too long before he sees those sexy eyes again,
as a hotel computer glitch has his “Art of Improvising Medical
Tools and Equipment” scheduled in the same room as Dakota's “The
Art of Crafting a Gratifying Sexual Scene”! Needless to say, Walt
wins no favours for ridiculing the fact that there are conventions
for bodice-rippers, but is observant enough to know that his comments
had ticked Dakota off. For her part, Dakota flips the coin and her
response renders him speechless.
Both
at stalemate but equally wanting to know more about one another, the
story continues for Walt and Dakota. Sizzling chemistry or not, the
future doesn't look promising for the protagonists, but fate steps in
to shake things up a bit!
This
is a perfect book whether lying on the beach or huddled up to keep
warm on a cold Winters night. It's fun, light-hearted and laugh-out
loud funny which leaves you, the reader with a contented feeling
after you've turned the final page.
