Seashell Bay #3

Releasing February 23rd, 2016

DEEPER THAN ANY OCEAN . . .

All Holly Tyler wants is a fantastic career, a not-too-committed relationship, and a city where there are no painful memories. Instead, she's called back to her hometown of Seashell Bay to help with her family's struggling general store. It's a town where everyone knows everyone, and where one man could sink Holly's careful plans.

Deputy Sheriff Micah Lancaster has wanted Holly for as long as he can remember. He knows she has a life on the mainland-and a boyfriend-and that there's no real future with her. But now Holly is back and the attraction still flickers between them, a promise of something more. Their desire is stronger than any undertow . . . and once it pulls them under, it won't let go.

This is the third book in the Seashell Bay series and my first book by the author duo V. K. Sykes

Holly Tyler has always been driven to succeed even more after the tragic death of her husband Drew in Afghanistan. In the four years since becoming a widow, she's sworn off commitment and only sought out relationships with men who are not looking for more than fun...her work becoming her priority focus. Now she's been offered the chance of a lifetime to partner in a new business venture in New York, only she's needed back where she grew up in Seashell Bay. Her Aunt Florence is ill and Aunt Beatrice needs her help. How will Holly juggle trying to help her family when she is needed elsewhere? On arriving back on the island, she sees a man she's had a crush on for many years...Micah Lancaster. Now Holly's task to do what is necessary and leave just got a whole lot more complicated.

Micah Lancaster has always wanted more than just friendship from Holly Tyler and has hoped that one day, despite her having a boyfriend, that she'd see him differently. He's the island deputy sheriff and very much part of the close-knit community. His life is here, although he does think about getting his detective shield too. When he and Holly's other friends suspect that she isn't happy, he takes a chance to tell her how he feels. After all, he has nothing to loose but his heart!

The chemistry between Holly and Micah crackles, as hot, sexy sparks fly whenever they are close to each other. Yet, Holly is truly torn. She wants the sheriff in her life, but can't handle that if he follows his own dreams, his job will become more dangerous. Something Holly can't cope with; a possibility of losing another man she loves in tragic circumstances. Her life is in limbo; unable to move forward, unable to go back!

The local community is a cast of colourful characters adding a fun, light atmosphere especially when a national supermarket chain is seeking planning permission to bring shopping convenience to the residents. Stirring up passionate feeling from those who wish for progress and equally from those wanting to preserve what has served the community well for years. Another sub-plot has Micah using his expertise to solve a rare crime on the island. And then there is Aunt Florence who is her own force of nature…!

I enjoyed the seamless writing of this writing duo. The plot is highly entertaining, highlighting loyalty, passion within a close-knit community whilst two people realise that the only solution is to be together.

The guys exchanged a few words and a fist bump before Aiden strode off. Holly had to shake herself into action, partly because they were two of the hottest guys on planet Earth and any red-blooded girl would be struck dumb at the vision of all that hotness in close proximity, and partly because she tended to freeze whenever she saw Micah these days.
That development was incredibly annoying. The man had been one of her best friends all her life, and yet damned if she didn’t feel like a nervous teenage girl when she thought about being alone with him, even in the store.
Coffee, Deputy?” she asked brightly. As he strode up, she took a step back to lean against the back counter. The extra four feet of distance did little to diminish the impact of his overwhelming masculinity or the way his tall, muscled form seemed to make the store shrink around him.
Hell, yeah. You know how I need caffeine in this high-pressure job,” he said as he laid his deputy’s hat on the counter. He flashed her a quick, charming grin. “It’s getting hot out there already.”
It was getting pretty hot inside the store too. She felt herself flushing, even though the store’s aging but still-efficient air-conditioning kept things at a steady seventy-three degrees.
Hormones, dammit. And she wasn’t anywhere near old enough to blame it on early menopause.
Since Micah took his coffee black, all Holly had to do was pour a cup, put a lid on it, and set it on the counter. And, yes, she was avoiding handing it to him in case their hands brushed. “There you go. I just made a new pot a few minutes ago.”
Micah reached into his pocket and pulled out a small wad of bills.
Holly rolled her eyes. “Put your money away, my friend. It’s on the house, as always. Cops and firefighters don’t pay for coffee in this establishment.”
Micah shook his head. “Maybe not before, but now they do. At least this one does. Holly, I’m sure as hell not taking free coffee when Florence and Beatrice are obviously struggling.”
As hard as her aunts had tried to keep the store’s financial woes under the radar, Micah clearly knew they had more problems than only the prospect of competition from a convenience store chain. Though the Jenkins General Store was looking tired, she suspected most people on the island had failed to realize how bad things were. Then again, Micah knew pretty much everything that was going on in Seashell Bay, often via Miss Annie, in whom Florence and Beatrice usually confided.
It’s just a cup of coffee, Micah,” Holly said.
His expression was polite but implacable. “Doesn’t matter. It’s the principle. And I’m going to buy everything I can here from now on. No more picking stuff up in town just because it’s a little cheaper. Islanders have been doing that more than we should.”

He pushed a five-dollar bill across the counter. “And don’t give me any change,” he said with a little growl roughening his deep voice. Holly found it adorable—also totally sexy, which she would not think more about.

Blood rushes to my head with the abrupt change in subject, and his flash pan change in demeanor. Private Henry is back, but we’re not in private. “Here?” I look around. It’s a secluded path, screened from bugs, shielded from the elements above, surrounded by dense bush and only used by the three Penthouse Cabins’ guests and the staff catering to those guests. I rarely ever pass anyone on my way to and from Henry’s place. It’s quite peaceful and private. Still, just beyond those trees, maybe a hundred feet away and definitely within earshot, is a resort full of people.
What Henry’s talking about is basically exhibitionism. Is he serious?
One glance at the hard look on his face tells me he is.
My body, which can still feel him inside me, responds immediately. But this isn’t good. The lines between Private Henry and Public Mr. Wolf are beginning to blur for him. “I think you need to focus on your various serious problems at hand,” I warn him in a slow, careful voice.
His jaw clenches. “Believe me, those problems are still very much in the forefront of my mind. I’m just setting something to look forward to once they’re all resolved. You know, goals.”
“Goals.” I drop my gaze to the front of his pants, to the bulge forming. Goals for his dick, apparently. Which is exactly what got him into his current problems. I do believe that Henry is a smart and shrewd businessman. He’s just not thinking clearly right now, and he has a lot to lose by not thinking clearly. He does need me to be levelheaded because he can’t seem to be. “Okay, how about we focus on more responsible goals for now.”
He closes the distance, breaking the two-foot rule.
“What are you doing?” I hiss, glancing around.
“Trying to hold on to what we had back there for a little longer.” He jerks his head toward the cabin. “Trying to avoid reality.”
So, he felt the deep connection too. My heart swells. “I didn’t think Henry Wolf avoided anything.”

About WOLF BITE (Wolf Cove Series #2):

Isolated in the luxurious Wolf Cove Hotel in Alaska, Abbi Mitchell is thousands of miles away from her family and friends.

In the hands of a predator. Potentially.

After discovering condemning information about the mercurial man who controls her day-to-day work life and, now, her most intimate private life as well, Abbi's not sure she can continue on with... whateveris going on between her and Henry Wolf. Especially when he's about to be thrown into a fiery media circus ring, and she, along with her reputation, will undoubtedly get dragged into it with him.

But breaking things off with the Big Bad Wolf now likely means losing her job and her summer of freedom, and going back to the farm and her controlling mother.

She's not doing that.

Abbi does have something to hold over Henry's head. If he forces her hand. If she has the guts to do what amounts to blackmail.

But will the all-powerful Henry Wolf concede, or will she finally feel his bite?

New Release Spotlight: Words Of A Soul by Lisa Fulham

Words of a Soul is the latest book from author Lisa Fulham and as the title suggests it's filled with words straight from the soul of the author.

Words of a Soul is a re-mastered and extended version of Words of a Season published in 2013.

This poetry book will plunge your emotions into icy dark depths and burn your heart with the fires of love.

Hear the rose scream, become a bow untied and lose yourself in the passionate pain of others.

May the words of my soul touch yours.

Note From The Author:
Some people think poetry has no place in today's world or have bad memories of having to dissect the meaning of a sonnet in high school, but poetry is fast becoming one of the most used prose on social media and twitter has countless #'s where poets of all calibre express their emotions using this form of art. A poem is simply a story stripped back to nothing but pure emotion, at least that's how I see my poetry.

Have you ever wondered 'what if'? I have. Many moons ago I dreamt of writing stories, but I let life take hold and soon the dream was forgotten. These days I'm living my 'what if' and I'd love for you to come along on this bodacious ride we call life with me and my words.

From sexy stories with believable people overcoming real self issues to poetry straight from my soul, I promise to always weave scenes of substance and express deep emotion in everything I write.

I hope you'll walk through the ice and darkness with me and travel to depths unknown to find the love which frees us all.
