A Duke. A Runner. An Earl.

Three men, each born into different circumstances.

Each fighting to overcome their own adversity.

All striving to change their past.

Gabriel St. James, Duke of Wesbrook, desires any birthright other than being the son of a hideous man. Unfortunately, Gabe knows the exact moment he became like his father—a night that has haunted him for seven years. Resigned to his future, he is unprepared when his illegitimate—and more importantly unbeknown—young daughter appears on his London doorstep. With no one to care for her but him.

Lady Elizabeth Blakely has loved only one man—her brother’s longtime friend, Gabe St. James. Not even his rakish and, oftentimes, wicked behavior dissuades her. Yet it all seems hopeless as he continues to overlook the woman she has become.

When Elizabeth learns Gabe is in need of assistance with his daughter, she seizes the opportunity. Gabe, less than thrilled with the situation—mostly due to his fierce desire for his best friend’s sister—has no option but to concede.
Besides, a more sinister threat lurks; someone is blackmailing Gabe with his darkest secret. Through it all, Gabe vows to resist Elizabeth, no matter how tempting.

Sometimes it's better to surrender . . .

He’d already been subjected to a sleepless night battling the possibility she could be carrying his babe. Part of him leapt with joy thinking of her slender frame, rounded from increasing.
Mostly, he felt worry. And fear, that his future son would, despite Gabe’s best efforts, grow to be like him and all the previous Wesbrook scoundrels.
Afraid or not, if it came to pass, he would do the right thing and marry her. In no way would he leave her vulnerable to the vicious ton. Besides, if things were different—if he were different—he would whisk her to Gretna Green right now and attach her to him for the rest of their lives.
Instead, he would love her the only way he was capable of—from afar. And someday hope he found the strength to break from the person his past had made him.
If only he knew how to inform Elizabeth they could no longer be together intimately. She would fight him on it. Of that he was damned sure.
Thinking of how her face brightened, and her eyes flashed with light when she became so determined, sent shivers of enjoyment through him.
Absorbed with all the wicked ways he’d like to turn the light in Elizabeth’s eyes to burning embers, he didn’t notice the door opening until it clicked shut.
When he realized who’d entered, uncharacteristic heat rose in his cheeks. His only excuse for the boyish flush was that being caught in the middle of erotic thoughts by his three-year-old daughter wasn’t an everyday occurrence. Thank God.
A bit unclear as to how to interact with the half-sized person before him, Gabe chose to remain silent and let her make the first move. It might not be very manly, but it was by far the wisest decision he knew of.

He remained seated as her blue eyes scanned the room before she finally spotted him sitting at the desk. It was so bloody adorable the way she set her tiny chin in a determined angle and headed straight toward him—a small doll clasped in each arm—that he almost circled his desk to greet her.

Navy SEAL Chief Wyatt Lockwood is fascinated by Marine sniper Captain Talia Culver. But
she wants nothing to do with him after learning of his reputation as a heartbreaker. The cocky Texan refuses to take the hint and keeps placing himself in Tal’s path. When she agrees to help him tend to needy families in an Afghan village, she learns there’s more to this SEAL than meets the eye. But is
she strong enough to risk having her heart broken again?

Wyatt can’t stay away from the beautiful, surly Marine. Tal is fascinating—and frustrating—and he is determined to crack through her tough exterior and get to know the soft woman he knows lurks beneath the surface. When he joins Tal on a sniper mission in the Afghan mountains, their bond continues to grow. But the mission takes a dangerous turn. Has he lost his chance with Tal forever?

Navy SEAL, Chief Wyatt Lockwood reminded Tal of that elusive, powerful, rare Anatolian leopard shed seen in a Turkish national park as a teen. Quiet. Dangerous. An apex predator, king of the jungle. Only this one had two legs, not four, and a set of balls on him that ran his brain.
Now Wyatt was sitting so close to her that she could smell hima combination of sweat, goat odor, and dust. But what made her breasts tighten was his male scent. She could smell it! God! What was going on with her? Her body was a total traitor to her, and Tal felt panic deep in her gut. She had loved Sergeant Brian Collier, one of the best snipers in the cadre. And shed given her heart, her soul, and her body to him. Hed done the same for her. Why was her body betraying her now? In all the years since Brians death, shed never been attracted to another man. But her thoughts always strayed to Wyatt Lockwood, which unsettled her greatly and made her feel guilty. She only had room in her heart for one great love. Tal could never stand the loss of a second man. She just couldnt.
She was aware that Wyatt was offering her a glass of water, holding her stare, patient as an Anatolian leopard waiting for his prey to move past so he could leap upon it.
Tal couldnt understand why, despite her dislike for him, she felt her walls threaten to crumble as a flow of hunger burned within her lower body. She wondered what it would be like to be kissed by this brazen Texas cowboy. He was confident of his appeal to women! The man reeked of naked sensuality that dripped off him, and hed never even touched herat least not that way.
But the look in those stormy gray eyes and his tough predator intelligence shook her reserve whenever she saw him. No man had ever done that to her. Not even Brian Collier, much as shed loved him.
Come on, darlin, you need to take a sip or two of this water to clear up whatevers stuck in your throat,Wyatt urged, lifting the glass in her direction.
Heat flooded Tals face as he again offered her the glass, and to avoid an extended hassle, she grabbed it. Their fingers momentarily grazed each other, sending a shiver through her. Keeping her expression blank, she brought the glass to her lips and gulped the water, agitated. Tal swallowed convulsively, choked, and coughed violently.
Wyatt grasped the glass before it spilled, and a moment later she felt a sharp, concentrated blow between her shoulder blades. It was strong enough to push her forward. Stunned, she blinked and sat up.
There, darlin,Wyatt drawled, no more water in your windpipe. Feel better now?
There was an honesty in his stare that shook her.
Okay?he prodded again.
Y-yes . . . okay . . . ,Tal managed hoarsely, rubbing her throat. Shed swallowed wrong for sure, and his remedyslapping her back hard enough to dislodge the water stuck in the wrong pipehad worked. Swallowing a couple of times, Tal tore her gaze from his concerned one and took several smaller sips this time. Her heart was hammering, and she felt shaky, like a teenage girl in front of her idol.
Gunslingerwas a good name for him. She wondered if Wyatt had notches on his SIG Sauer to show how many conquests hed made. God knew he had a reputation for it.
Matt reached across, touching her hand. You all right, Tal? You look pale.
She set the glass down, frowning. Of course. I just swallowed the wrong way.
It was more than likely my fault, acknowledged Wyatt. The lady seems a bit spooked whenever Im around her,he confided to her siblings with a regretful grin.
Tals brows drew down. Im not going to dispute your observation, Chief Lockwood.
He gave her a crooked smile and rubbed his beard. Hmmm, you think it might be a little bit of rivalry between the Navy and the Marine Corps, maam?
It killed Tal that he was so polite, even courtly, toward her. He was never angry or nasty. He just kept behaving like a patient Anatolian leopard stalking its prey.

Given, she snapped, that youve screwed up more than three of my operations in the past, Chief, yes, Id say theres some friction between us.
