Driving Whiskey Wild

The Whiskey's series

A captivating new sexy standalone romance by New York Times bestselling author Melissa Foster.
Special Forces veteran and Dark Knights Motorcycle Club member Bullet Whiskey lives to protect his family, their bar, and the residents of his small hometown. He’s rough, unapologetic, and haunted by a secret, painful past. He’s also a master at keeping people away, and when his sister hires gorgeous and sweet Finlay Wilson to help expand their biker bar, he knows just how to get rid of her.
After losing her boyfriend and her father, Finlay moves back to her hometown to be closer to the little family she has left. She needs her temporary job at Whiskey Bro’s to get her catering business off the ground, and she’s determined not to let the gruff, arrogant mountain of a man Bullet Whiskey scare her off.
Finlay is everything Bullet has never wanted. She’s afraid of his dog, afraid of motorcycles, and sweet enough to give him cavities, but as she weaves her way into the hearts of everyone around him, he’s powerless to resist her charms. Passion ignites, but trust doesn’t come easily, and when their pasts collide, Bullet finds out the true meaning of protecting those he loves.

Don’t fuck this up, Bullet, or I swear I’ll make your life a living hell. She’s agreed to work with us for a month, and we need her if we’re going to pull this off. She knows about menus, hiring kitchen staff, and health regulations.”
She doesn’t belong in a place like this, Dix. She’s not like us.” Finlay looked like a frigging angel with her silky blond hair and innocent blue eyes. It was that innocence that had flipped some switch inside Bullet and made him want to sin her up and protect her at the same time. Fucking Finlay Wilson. The wedding was four weeks ago, and he hadn’t been able to stop thinking about her since. If she wasn’t starring in his X-rated fantasies, she was flitting about town in those frilly dresses she wore, spreading smiles like fairy dust.
You didn’t seem to mind that when you hit on her at the wedding.” She arched a brow. “Or did you think I didn’t notice the way you were watching her every move when Bear and Crystal also decided to tie the knot? Sidling up to her every chance you got during the reception, like a puppy chasing a treat?”
Bullet scoffed. He’d been looking at her long before Crystal and Bear’s impromptu proposal and subsequent wedding the day Tru and Gemma got married. “She’s a hot chick. So what? I didn’t want to marry her—just have a little fun.”
Then you shouldn’t mind seeing her in here for a few hours a day while we pull things together.”
It’s a mistake, Dixie.” He moved around the bar and stood beside her. “A pretty little thing like her is just asking for trouble in a place like this. Why are you so hung up on hiring Finlay anyway? Did you even check with our club members to see if anyone needed a job?”
You know, sometimes I forget that you have so much Dad in you, it’s like beating my head against a brick wall.”
What the fuck does that mean?”
That you’re as hesitant to hire outside the family as he is. That you think if someone’s not in the club or one of us, they can’t do shit.”
Jed’s working here, isn’t he?”
Bear had recently given up bartending and was now designing motorcycles for the elite Silver-Stone Cycles. For the first time in the history of the bar, they’d been forced to hire outside the family and outside their motorcycle club, the Dark Knights, which was as solid as family. Although Jed Moon, who was not only their new part-time bartender but also worked as an auto mechanic for the shop, was Bear’s new brother-in-law. So technically, he was family. Finlay Wilson was not. Finlay Wilson was trouble waiting to happen.
Give me a break.” He shook his head. “We always hire family first.”
Yeah? Well, which of our club members do you think knows how to run a restaurant? Gutter, the home repair expert? Or maybe one of the Bando brothers, who pour concrete for a living? Do you realize Finlay went to one of the best culinary schools in Boston? She’s worked in a restaurant, and she’s run her own catering company for years, and soon she’ll be opening a catering company right here in town.”
He didn’t give a rat’s ass about her credentials. If anything, she was overqualified. But the thought of her flouncing around the bar with a bunch of horny, drunk guys going after her made Bullet’s blood boil. The fact that she was not his to worry about did not escape him. “We’re offering sandwiches and fries, not gourmet meals.”
Which makes her the perfect person for this job. She knows how to keep costs down, and she’s from Peaceful Harbor. She’s putting down roots here, which means she’ll want to see the business do well—so it doesn’t reflect poorly on her. What do you have against Finlay, anyway?”
Against her? Nothing.” Though he’d like to be buried deep inside her. “But she’ll get eaten alive in a place like this and she’ll go cowering out the door. Then we’ll be left trying to figure shit out anyway. Besides—”
The creak of the front door opening drew their attention. Bullet looked over his shoulder, meeting the innocent blue eyes of the angel peeking in at them.

New Release Spotlight: Hello Stranger by Lisa Kleypas

New York Times bestselling author Lisa Kleypas delivers a scintillating tale of an unconventional beauty who finds passion with the spy who can’t resist her

A woman who defies her time
Dr. Garrett Gibson, the only female physician in England, is as daring and independent as any man—why not take her pleasures like one? Yet she has never been tempted to embark on an affair, until now. Ethan Ransom, a former detective for Scotland Yard, is as gallant as he is secretive, a rumored assassin whose true loyalties are a mystery. For one exhilarating night, they give in to their potent attraction before becoming strangers again.

A man who breaks every rule
As a Ravenel by-blow spurned by his father, Ethan has little interest in polite society, yet he is captivated by the bold and beautiful Garrett. Despite their vow to resist each other after that sublime night, she is soon drawn into his most dangerous assignment yet. When the mission goes wrong, it will take all of Garrett’s skill and courage to save him. As they face the menace of a treacherous government plot, Ethan is willing to take any risk for the love of the most extraordinary woman he’s ever known.

He heard her muffled chuckle. She continued to lean against him while the trio of constables expressed sympathy for the unfortunate patient. Eventually the men departed with a chorus of hearty farewells. Ethan discovered that his other arm had stolen around Garrett. Making himself let go of her was like trying to uncoil a steel spring.
You should go up to your father now,” he said with difficulty.
Eliza will look after him while I take a few minutes to show you some slides. I have insect wings . . . pollen grains . . . flower petals . . . What would you like to see?”
The inside of a hansom cab,” he said softly. “I can’t be alone with you, darlin’.”
Garrett touched the edges of his vest, fingers clamping on the thin leather. “Ethan.” A blush rose in her face, like light glowing through pink frosted glass. “I don’t want to end this. We . . . we could meet in secret, now and then. No one would have to know. We would make no claims on each other. We’ll just . . . do as we please.”
The way she fumbled with the words, so unlike her usual precise way of speaking, devastated Ethan. He could only guess what it cost her to lay open her pride like this. He wasn’t certain what she was offering, or even if she knew. Not that it mattered. He wanted, craved, needed anything she was willing to give. But he had to make her understand that it was impossible. And even if it were, the idea was beneath her.
Have you had that kind of arrangement with a man before?” he brought himself to ask.
Her eyes were the green of deep summer and lush growing things. “I’m a woman who makes her own decisions and handles the consequences.”
That means no,” Ethan said softly. At her silence, he continued, “You’d be risking your reputation. Your career.”
Believe me, I understand that better than you.”
Have you ever shared a bed with a man? Even once?”
Why is that relevant?”
Her evasive response sent a pleasure-pang down to the pit of his stomach. “That means no,” he said again, his voice even softer than before. He took a slow breath, trying to steady himself, while his blood sang with the knowledge that she’d been waiting for him. She was meant to be his. God, he wanted her beyond any reckoning of earth or heaven. But her well-being mattered a thousand times more than his own desires.
Garrett . . . I’m a man full o’ trouble. When I vowed to let nothing harm you, I included myself on that list.”
A frown crimped her forehead. She closed her grip on his vest until her fists were tight as pine knots. “I’m not afraid of you, or your trouble.” Her green eyes were narrowed and intent as she tugged him closer. “Kiss me,” she urged in a whisper.
I have to go,” he said shortly, and pulled back while he was still able.
But Garrett moved with him, her hands reaching up to grip his head on either side, the way he’d taught her at Baujart’s. The strength of her fingers electrified him.
Kiss me,” she commanded, “or I’ll break your nose.”
The threat startled a ragged laugh from him. He shook his head as he looked at her, this fearsomely capable woman who loved geese and was afraid of spaghetti, and could either wield a scalpel in a complex surgical procedure or use it as a throwing-knife.
There had always been a cold streak in him, but he couldn’t seem to find it now, when he needed it most. He was breaking apart inside. He would never be the same after this.
Christ, you’ve ruined me,” he whispered.
His arms went around her, one hand gripping the heavy silken mass of her braided chignon. She guided his head down, and he lost the battle, all his will vanquished as he began to kiss her as if the world were about to end.
For him, it was.

Release Day Review: Close to the Edge by Dawn Ryder

Close to the Edge (Unbroken Heroes #5)Close to the Edge by Dawn Ryder

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Despite the formatting issue with my early review copy, I was instantly pulled into this intriguing romantic suspense novel, which had me hooked from the first paragraph. The author is new to me, and even though this is the fifth novel in the series, it works well as a standalone without any issues.

Dare Servant has devoted his life to his work as a special ops agent simply because he doesn't believe living a normal domestic life can be compatible with his career. Even though colleagues are settling down and proving him wrong. That's until he meets Jenna Henson...

When Jenna Henson's friend asks her to assist him on a catering job at the last minute, she's happy to help out, only her arrival places her very much in a 'wrong time, wrong place' situation and straight into the arms of Agent Dare Servant…

This is a novel that kept me turning the pages as fast as I could turn them as Jenna gets dragged into a deadly situation, just as dangerous as her encounter with Dare. Neither the suspense nor romance overshadows each other as the pair are faced with decisions, causing them to question the people they are. The narrative is packed with twists, creating a thrilling backdrop as explosive expert Jenna boldly throws herself into the investigation as Agent Servant realises he's not immune to the woman who unintentionally became enveloped within their investigative mission.

A well balanced, fast paced, action packed novel with a combustible chemistry between the protagonists. The secondary characters are equally fascinating and offer mystery and some humour to the narrative. Overall, a highly entertaining romantic suspense leaving me with a desire to read the author's back-list.

Release Day Spotlight: True To You by Jennifer Ryan

True To You by Jennifer Ryan
Series Montana Heat
Genre Adult Contemporary Romance
Publisher Avon Books
Publication Date February 27, 2018

A Montana Man risks everything for the woman he loves . . .

Undercover DEA Special Agent Dawson King spent five months in a Montana prison establishing a fake identity to take down a ruthless drug dealer and put him behind bars. Except there’s a wild card . . . the killer’s beloved daughter. Cara Potter may appear to be on the right side of the law, but King has learned the hard way to trust no one—even someone as tantalizing as the coffee shop owner. She’s irresistible . . . but is she also dangerous?

From the moment he enters her life, King makes Cara . . . nervous. The handsome drifter says he wants to get his life together . . . but there is something about him that doesn’t quite ring true. Cara wants to believe in him, yet she holds back despite the way he awakens dormant dreams and leaves her breathless with his sexy smile, steamy kisses, his every touch.

When the explosive truth comes out and she’s betrayed by the ones she loves, Cara must decide—can she trust her heart, or should she listen to her head?

For the first time in a long time, Cara turned and went after what she wanted and believed with her whole heart that whatever happened was worth it, because letting this feeling go would be a loss she couldn’t live with and not regret the rest of her life. Her heart couldn’t shut off the dreams and possibilities she’d longed for once, lost, but wanted again. With Flash.
She stood in front of his door, stared at the grain in the wood, and sucked in a breath, found her courage, held up her hand to knock, but gasped and stepped back when Flash shoved the barn door aside and held a gun in her face. Again.
He immediately dropped it to his side and raked his free hand over his head. “Cara.” Her name came out on a relieved sigh that held an apology for pointing a gun at her for the second time in an hour. The relief turned to frustration. “What are you doing here? Go home.”
She dismissed the fact he opened the door armed, that he tried to send her away, his bare chest, even though she couldn’t stop staring at the wall of sculpted muscle, and unearthed the desire she’d buried long ago and unleashed it on him.
She closed the distance, went up on tiptoe, wrapped her arms around his neck, and locked her lips over his. Her body molded to his the second his arms wrapped around her and his hand landed on her ass. His fingers curled over the swell of her bottom and gripped tight, pulling her closer.
That spark between them flared to life as they kissed, his tongue sliding along hers. The ball of heat she carried low in her belly since she met him exploded through her system with every tempting taste of him. She wanted more and slid her fingers through his hair, held him close, angled her head to take the kiss deeper and gave herself over to him.
The flames flashed out the second he pushed her away and ordered, “Leave. Now.” He took two steps back, leaving her to catch her balance as he pulled his hands away from her shoulders. “Please.” The word came out strangled and forced from his throat.
She stared at him, wondering what she’d done. “What’s wrong?”
This.” He held his hands out, realized he still had the gun in his hand, and tossed it onto the perfectly made bed. All she wanted to do was mess it up with him. She wanted him to let loose his reservations and kiss her again, because when they kissed nothing else mattered but the way they made each other feel.
How can something that feels so right be wrong?” She didn’t get it. She didn’t understand why he’d kiss her the way he did, the way he wanted to kiss her, and say it was wrong.
The frustration in his eyes and the firm set of his lips came out in the angry swipe of his hand through his hair. “Damnit, Cara. This can’t happen.”
Why? You want it. I want it. If we’re both willing…” She held her hands up in front of her like holding up an offering.
I’m trying to spare you.”
That got her attention. She dropped her hands, cocked her head, and looked him dead in the eye. “What does that mean?” Because if he was sparing her a night in his arms, in his bed, and a chance to feel something as real as what she felt between them, she didn’t want or need his sacrifice. She just needed him.
I’m not staying. As soon as I finish what I came here to do, I’m leaving. That hasn’t changed. It won’t change.”
Her heart cracked, the pain an echo of past hurts, but it didn’t change the fact that she wanted this. She would take tonight, however many nights Flash gave her, and be grateful for them, knowing that right now he wanted this as much as she did, but gave her the chance to back out and save her the pain and heartbreak she’d feel when he left.
She turned and went to the open door, feeling Flash stiffen behind her, hold his breath, and stare at her back everything in him wanting to call her back. That’s how close she felt to him, close enough to understand all he felt and feel it herself.
So she closed the door and turned back to him, knowing going in that this wasn’t forever but right now. Dreams of the future were wishes that may never come true, but right here, right now, she stood before a man she could have all those dreams with for tonight.
Moments like this were rare and sometimes never happened. She wouldn’t walk out on it because she couldn’t keep it. Instead she’d hold on to it, cupped in her hands like the precious gift it was and know that one day, maybe tomorrow, she’d have to let it go but it would always be a memory to savor, a piece of her heart that would remind her, once, she was loved.
Maybe not the forever kind of love she wanted, but loved enough to be told the truth.

Release Day Review: Darkest Night by Tara Thomas

Darkest Night (Sons of Broad #1)Darkest Night by Tara Thomas

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

After reading the trilogy of prequel novellas for this new Sons of Broad series, with the scene set, I couldn't wait to jump head first into this first full-length novel. It isn't essential to read the three novellas before beginning Darkest Night so if you begin with this book, you won't be missing any vital information.

After her family lost everything after a scandal, Tilly Brock can't wait until she finished her degree because it meant she wouldn't have to work at the Charleston's upscale gentleman's club to fund her way through college. She's no longer part of Charleston's elite and Keaton Benedict's life so her focus is to finish her studies and become a teacher.

To outsiders, Keaton Benedict has it all. As the youngest of three brothers, he's expected to follow his older siblings and take on an active role within Benedict Industries, the legacy of their late father. Only despite his vast wealth, his heart longs to belongs to the young woman who disappeared from his life.

The intrigue continues as the Benedict family and Tilly are unexpectedly reunited as they're targeted by The Gentleman. Information from the past and new clues are uncovered, raising questions about Tilly's late father's connection to the scandal that ruined the family financially. The former young loves reconnect and discover their mutual feelings for each other are even stronger than before as potential danger is always in the background.

The narrative kept me engaged the whole time as we get snippets of insight into the Gentleman's world, as we watch Keaton and Tilly's romance develop whilst Charleston PD officer Alyssa Adams continues with her investigation into the abducted women and their murders as well as attention from Kipling Benedict. I wasn't familiar with this writer before this series, but I'm impressed with how effortlessly the narrative flows.

The ending for the protagonists is a satisfactory happy for now, as threads are left open to be continued in Deadly Secret #2 and Broken Promise #3… can't wait!
