Can’t Wait
Hunted Series Prequel
By: Jennifer Ryan
Releasing November 11th, 2014
Avon Romance
From the All I Want for Christmas is a Cowboy Anthology comes Jennifer Ryan’s story of Caleb and Summer. Before the Hunted series they had a whirlwind romance not to be forgotten...
Caleb Bowden has a lot to thank his best friend, Jack, for - saving his life in Iraq and giving him a job helping him run his family’s ranch. He also introduced him to the most incredible woman he’s ever met. Too bad he can’t ask her out. You do not date your best friend’s sister. Summer and Caleb share a closeness she’s never felt for anyone, but the stubborn man refuses to turn the flirtatious friendship into something meaningful. Frustrated and tired of wishing to be happy, Caleb tells Jack how he feels about Summer. With his friend’s help, he plans a surprise Christmas proposal she’ll never forget - because he can’t wait to make her his wife.

I'm not
normally a fan of novellas, but this just hit the right spot for me.
A heartwarming read for cold, dark Winter evening.
Set
during the holiday season, we meet Caleb and Summer. Caleb is a
ranch foreman at Stargazer Ranch, working along side his best friend
Jack. Both men served together as army rangers and have a strong
brotherly bond. Summer is Jack's kid sister and a woman who knows
exactly what she want from life:
“The
man I want is good and kind and makes me laugh when he puts his mind
to it. He's strong and resilient. Although he's been through a
rough couple of years, he wants the same thing I want for his future.
A simple ranch life, living as husband and wife with our children,
making a good life and growing old together, happy and in love.”
Caleb knows he is the man Summer wants because he wants the same too.
However, there is a problem. It's called Jack!
When Summer wants something, she is a force to be reckoned with!
Caleb, an honorable and loyal man is torn. He wants to be with
Summer, the woman he sees spending the rest of his life with. But
equally doesn't want to loose his friendship with Jack because you
don't date your best friends sister!
The path to the eventual HEA has its bumps with some surprises along
the way.
I read
this as a standalone as it's the first work I have read by this
author. It was a quick read and I finished it within a couple of
hours. “Can't Wait” is part of a series, so the characters are
well developed. Not being familiar with the characters before
reading this story didn't impede the overall enjoyment of this book –
if anything, it has whetted my appetite to follow them up more.
I love
the author's easy writing style, it's humorous and sexy. Equally,
delicate and difficult issues are dealt with sensitively taking you
to the heart of the problem, without distracting us away from the
overall feel good factor. I recommend to anyone that loves a story
based around the holiday season, loves hot cowboys and a heroine that
wont stop until she gets what she wants!
