Publication Day Review: The Devil in Her Bed by Kerrigan Byrne

THE DEVIL IN HER BED

by Kerrigan Byrne

(St. Martin’s Paperbacks, March 9, 2021, $7.99).

He lives in secret service to the Crown—a man of duty, deception, and an undeniable attraction to a woman who threatens to tear his whole world apart.

They call him the Devil of Dorset. He stands alone, a man of undeniable power. Moving in and out of shadows, back alleys and ballrooms, he is unstoppable and one of the Crown’s most dangerous weapons. However, when he sets his sights on the undeniably beautiful Countess of Mont Claire, Francesca Cavendish, he doesn’t realize that he has met a match like no other.

True love wears no disguise.

Francesca is a countess by day and stalks her prey—those responsible for the death of her family—by night. What she does not expect is to be thrown into the path of the devil himself, the Earl of Devlin. She has secrets of her own and he seems determined to lay them bare. Can her heart survive finding the love of her life and losing him when all is revealed?

Oh, what a stunning finale! The Crimson Council, the secretive occult society is crushed and the last of The Red Rogues finds her perfect match.

He's known as the Devil of Dorset, but unknown as a gentleman of many disguises. Chandler works for the Crown and Francesca Cavendish is a woman he knows is a fraud. After all, he's a master of deception, and it takes one to know one. He's determined to discover why she's pretending to be the Countess of Mont Claire, only his interest in this woman goes beyond his investigation.

Francesca is a resourceful woman and wants to finally solve the mystery of who ordered the massacre which killed all the people she loved. As the sole survivor, she's getting close to finding the perpetrator. With her reputation in tatters, will she succeed in finding closure?

I've enjoyed the previous novels in this intriguing series, but this one is exceptional. Lies and deceit are uncovered, as the strength of friendship is enforced as Francesca comes face to face with Chandler. However, all is not at it seems because both are masquerading as aliases...who have met before on more than one occasion.

The heroine and Red Rogues are familiar characters and each complement the others with their skills and intelligence. Surprisingly, Cecilia and Alexandra men; Redmayne and Ramsay, play an active part in helping to bring down the Crimson Council and sending the man responsible for the massacre to the gallows. Therefore it's no surprise, Ms Kerrigan's writing kept my attention the whole duration of the book. The well thought out narrative, along with added humour make this a novel and series I'll want to read again.

KERRIGAN BYRNE lives with her husband on the coast of Washington State’s Olympic Peninsula in a Victorian-era town almost frozen in time. When she's not writing, you might find her on the beach with her dogs, lounging at a local vineyard or brewery, or buying things she doesn't need at antique stores. She loves to hear from her readers.
