But is she the ideal choice for him?

I limp toward Dawg. “Here.” I hand him the phone. “Next time you tattle on me, I’d appreciate it if you didn’t share every little detail.”

“He asked, miss.” Dawg doesn’t appear at all contrite.

“A distracted marine is a dead marine.” I quote Mack, one of Hawke’s men. “Whether Hawke asks or not, you’re not to call him with trivial concerns while he’s on an assignment. Got it?”

The older man maintains my gaze. “Got it.” He doesn’t look away, his lips silently moving as though he’s debating with himself.

I raise an eyebrow.

“He wants you to talk to Hawke, to tell him I’m ready to lead the high-profile assignments.” Ellen’s eyes glitter with excitement.

“That is Organization business,” Dawg barks. “He wouldn’t appreciate us discussing it.”

She shrugs.

Hawke knows she can lead the high-profile assignments, but I don’t relay this because Dawg’s right. My military man won’t appreciate them discussing Organization business, not with me, an outsider.

Plus I’m not certain he will ever delegate this responsibility. I won’t raise my new friend’s hopes.

“Do you really want to lead those assignments?” I gaze at her. How crazy is she? “They’re extremely dangerous.”

“They’re challenging, not extremely dangerous.” Ellen rolls her eyes. “The team is thorough. We reduce the risk of assignments to almost nothing.”

They reduce the risk of assignments to almost nothing. My lips flatten. There’s still a chance that Hawke could die, could leave me forever.

If Ellen was his girl, our relationship would end, but he might live.

Don’t leave the club until I get there,” Hawke answers on the second ring, sounding as unhappy as I feel.

Will that be soon?” I sink into one of Nicolas’s guest chairs, the seat deliciously soft and welcoming, tempting me to stay in this office forever. “Because I don’t like it here,” I whisper, covering my lips with my hand.

Did you see something that made you uncomfortable?” Hawke’s voice roughens.

I can’t see anything at all,” I confess. “It must be supermodels-drink-free night. Everyone is abnormally tall.”

This doesn’t draw the expected chuckle. My military man is unnervingly serious. “Is that all?”

No.” I prop my aching foot on the other guest chair. My beautiful Louboutins are scuffed. I rub the dirt off the black leather. “Someone stomped on my foot, the one with the damaged toenail. I’ll lose it for certain now, and then I won’t be able to wear sandals for the rest of the summer.”

There’s a pause and I realize what I’ve done. I’m whiny about losing toenails and he’s dealing with one of his life-threatening FUBAR situations.

Are you safe?” I press the cool phone case against my heated skin. “Do you need help? I can borrow a laptop or tablet from Nicolas and look at surveillance footage for you.” I wouldn’t ever have to leave the office.

Nicolas has done enough for one night.” Hawke is angry and I don’t know why. “You were the center of attention. Everyone was watching you.”

What the hell did Mack tell him?

It wasn’t a sexy type of attention,” I explain. “They were judging Cyndi and me harshly. Angel made a scene. I tried to run, but Nicolas wouldn’t allow me to escape.” I take a deep breath, dreading my military man’s reaction to the rest of the story. “He offered me a billion dollars to have sex with him.”

And you refused because you’re not that type of girl,” Hawke replies. He hasn’t called me love or sweetheart, not once during our conversation. I’m the person he’s furious with, and I don’t know how to fix us.

That’s not why I refused.” I’m a pervert. If Hawke had offered me a billion dollars, I would have taken it, been his prostitute for the evening.

But we won’t ever play those kinky games. He doesn’t have any money to spare.

Hawke sighs. “I’ll get there as soon as I can, Belinda.” He ends the call without uttering another word.

I stare at the screen. Hawke didn’t tell me to call if I needed him.

Because he no longer cares.

Blogstop & Excerpt: Sinful Rewards 6 by Cynthia Sax

Sinful Rewards # 6
 A Billionaires & Bikers Novella # 6
By: Cynthia Sax
Releasing December 16th, 2014
Avon Red Impulse

Bee Carter has spent a lifetime creating her good-girl persona. Three harsh words uttered in anger shred this carefully crafted façade, testing her relationships.

Nicolas, her handsome billionaire, is hiding a decades-old secret. Bee's scandal will draw unwanted attention to his dark past, placing the real estate empire he's built and the employees he manages in peril. Hawke, her tattooed bad-boy biker, protects the rich and famous. His high-profile clients won't want their bodyguard to be linked to Chicago's wild woman.

Both men desire her, craving her touch with a white-hot passion, but who will risk everything to stand by her side—her biker or her billionaire?

Nicolas is my priority. He’s the man I need, the man I should want. I fix a smile on my face and swing the door open.

My smile wavers. Nicolas’s face is pale, his black hair mussed, shadows hugging his dark eyes and stubble covering his jaw. His previously immaculate black suit is rumpled, his forest green tie loosened. My beautiful billionaire looks like hell.

“Bee.” Nicolas sighs, his chest rising and falling, and he says nothing more. He’s past the point of making sense, too exhausted for words, having stayed awake all night dealing with the power outage.

“Come in.” I grab his hand and pull him into the condo, marching him toward my bedroom. His skin is warm and smooth, lacking Hawke’s creases and calluses. “Where is your phone?”

Nicolas holds out the device, his hand shaking. I grip the phone and glance at the screen. “Good.” I nod. “It’s turned off. You won’t need it for at least an hour.”

“Twenty minutes,” Nicolas mumbles. “Must work.” He stumbles over nothing, tugging on my arm, relying on me to keep him upright.

“You must sleep.” I pull back the covers on my bed, the sheets clean, freshly changed, smelling of the lemon-scented laundry detergent. “Take off your jacket.” I set Nicolas’s phone on the nightstand, next to Hawke’s emergency lantern.

My billionaire struggles with the garment. I cluck my tongue and help him, placing his jacket temporarily on the foot of the bed. His white shirt clings to his broad shoulders.

“Come closer,” I command. Nicolas obeys, dipping his head, and I remove his tie, sliding the strip of decadent silk around his neck. I flick the top button of his shirt open, revealing a V of tanned flesh. My tongue skims over my bottom lip, the temptation to taste his skin tremendous, Hawke having primed my body, tormented me to the point where I hunger for release.

Nicolas sways on his feet, in no state to indulge my passion. I drift my hands down his long, lean form to his belt. That can’t be comfortable. I unfasten the expensive leather and unzip his dress pants, slide the black fabric to his ankles. He’s wearing crisp white boxer shorts, his legs golden, unmarred by scars, perfect, his muscles defined.

“Lie down.” I wave at the bed. “And I’ll remove your shoes.”

“Yes.” Nicolas drops face-first, falling like his precious tree, bouncing on the mattress. I slip his Edward Green black wingtips off his feet. The workmanship of his shoes is exquisite, the upper decadently soft, the sole a piece of art.

Nicolas snuggles into my pillow, my billionaire appearing adorably boyish, all of his curt business demeanor stripped from him. I gaze down at him. It should be so easy to fall in love with him.

And I will. My jaw juts.

Soon.
