New Publication Spotlight & Review: Daisy's French Farmhouse by Lorraine Wilson

Daisy’s French Farmhouse by Lorraine Wilson

Fly to France for the perfect summer getaway –without leaving your house! This a heartwarming, feel good read perfect for fans of Lucy Coleman and Jo Thomas.

Escape to heaven…

Daisy has never been lucky in love, and when her love life implodes—again—she flees to France. A summer in the sun helping out at her friend Poppy’s guesthouse is the perfect way to put unsuitable men behind her!

When Daisy finds herself dog sitting for two loveable rescues they quickly wind their way into Daisy’s heart. The trouble is so does their owner – enigmatic widower and bookseller Anton! But she didn’t come to France fall for another unattainable man…

Can they honour the past and take a chance on the future?

When Daisy finds out the man she’s been seeing is married, her reaction is to contact her friend, Poppy and asks if she can stay with her for a while. She’s embarrassed about her lack of judgement, so hopes a summer getaway will help her decide what she wants to do with her life. On arrival in Southern France, she’s instantly drawn to the area and wonders whether she can make her life here too?

I like Daisy and found her psychometric “gift” intriguing and enjoyed how the author works this into the narrative. It is interesting to understand how others view Daisy when they discover this about her and therefore, how Anton reacts himself. Equally, his charm is addictive as we discover his passionate interest in local folklore and dedication to keeping his old family bookshop open. His openness to sharing these things with Daisy, as he showed her around local places of interest is addictive. Emotions and feelings are constant, as Daisy begins looking to create a new life for herself as Anton slowly opens up to taking a chance on love again.

The ending is poignant and touching in what is a truly evocative novel. The overall feel is joyful as were entertained on this emotional journey of discovery for the two protagonists. It’s light-hearted yet tinged with small pockets of sadness… with a happy ending, full of promise.

All the dogs play a large part in the narrative and, for me, steal rather a lot of attention away from the humans. I’m sure there are many fans of the series who disagree with me. It’s just, that I’d rather have read more about Daisy and Anton than the canine cuties.

Book Publication Day Spotlight and Review: JoJo's French Escape by Lorraine Wilson

JoJo’s French Escape by Lorraine Wilson

‘She had me at Bonjour! Warm, funny, deliciously French…this lovely story filled my heart with sunshine’ Jane Linfoot
Imagine yourself in beautiful France with the sun warm on your face and a glass of wine in your hand…Jojo’s French Escape is the perfect summer read!
Trapped in paradise…
For twelve months JoJo Grant has been hiding from a secret too shameful to share.  And whilst her sanctuary might be the beautiful French countryside, JoJo has a horrible feeling that her peace is about to be shattered…because bursting into her life is the hottest celebrity chef around – Callum O’Connor.
Callum knows all about JoJo’s past, her time as a reality star, the scandal that has dogged her, but he isn’t sure why she’s still hiding?  After spending time with Jojo, it’s obvious to him that she has nothing to be ashamed of – she just needs to be a little braver…
But as much as JoJo likes Callum, he thrives on the glare of the outside world.  Can JoJo let go of her past…with Callum by her side?

I first got to know JoJo in Christmas at the Château, book 2 in the French Escape series. Now, we find get to find out why she came to France and what happens next!

Sex in the Suburbs reality T.V. series gave JoJo her fifteen minutes of fame but it came at a huge personal cost. One sex tape later, she's hiding in Southern France trying to rebuild her life, after leaving her bakery business in the UK. When Irish celebrity chef, Callum O'Connor turns up, lustful sparks fly between them. However, T.V. producers in the UK want JoJo to be part of a new reality spin-off show...along with her ex Aiden and his girlfriend. Is the sexy chef the reason her whereabouts have been uncovered, or is his presence at the Château a coincidence?

Oh my, this novel is sexy and the chemistry between JoJo and Cal is off the scale. As a couple, their physical attraction is instantaneous, their sexy trysts are frequent, however, there's nothing gratuitous in their loved-up scenes as it merely reflects how they are as a couple.

Cal is the perfect partner for JoJo; he's wise, "deep" with his thoughts and has an ability to make JoJo see her situation from a different perspective. He's also using his time in France to re-evaluate his own past like JoJo, but will they feature in each other's future?

For those who have read either of the previous books in the series, you'll be happy to catch up with Poppy and Leo, as their wedding gets closer and plans for the château begin to take shape.

My only "tiny" gripe is about the dogs… there are many, very cute but I felt they stole a bit too much of the limelight away from their humans. Although in kleptomaniac Flump's defence, he plays a useful role at the perfect time! Saying that, if you love adorable dogs, you'll love them all!

Overall, another well thought out and written novel by Ms Wilson set against a beautiful backdrop with relatable and likeable characters and a pleasurable ending.

New Release Spotlight & Review: Christmas at the Chateau by Lorraine Wilson

Christmas at the Château by Lorraine Wilson

A Christmas she’ll remember forever…
Poppy is looking forward to spending her first Christmas in France at her boyfriend, Leo’s, Château. And as the snow falls softly around the dramatic castle, Poppy can’t think of anything more magical.
There are new traditions to discover, a cosy Christmas market to explore and best of all, a promise of secret treasure hunt from gorgeous Leo. Only family pressure and uncertainty about her future in France can threaten to cast a shadow over the holiday.

When the treasure hunt takes an unexpected turn Poppy knows for sure this is one Christmas she’ll remember forever.

A Christmassy novella, full of feel-good vibes.

Poppy decision to spend her first Christmas in France isn't a popular one with her family. Her boyfriend, Leo's father is unwell so it's more practical for them to spend the holiday at his family's château. She's looking forward to embracing new traditions and exploring the area to discover how they celebrate. Yet, despite her outward optimism, she's worried about how secure her future is in this beautiful part of the world.

I read this in one sitting and quickly became enveloped within the beautiful French backdrop. Having not read the previous book about Poppy, it's easy to pick this one up as a standalone novel. There's just enough back-story to fill in the gaps. For a short book, the author packs lots of action and fascinating details into the pages and my favourite part is the treasure hunt. Although I sussed out quickly where the clues were leading, I liked how it's presented and the outcome.

If you like dogs of all shapes and sizes, there a handful of four-legged characters adding their brand of charm and appeal. Their humans; Poppy and Leo are people you'd like to have as friends and the supporting cast are an equally likeable crowd, some of which will be known to those who have already read, Poppy's Place in the Sun.

If you're looking for a quick fix to get you into the spirit of Christmas, this is a book to curl up with and enjoy along with a mug of cocoa or a glass of mulled wine.
