New Publication Spotlight & Review: The Little Bookshop By The Sea by Eliza J Scott

The Little Bookshop By The Sea by Eliza J Scott

Welcome to the Happy Hartes Bookshop in Micklewick Bay on the beautiful North Yorkshire Coast!

The Happy Hartes Bookshop has been a part of bookworm Florrie Appleton’s life as far back as she can remember. From the evocative smell of the books, to working alongside her beloved Mr H and his black Labrador, Gerty, there’s no wonder she calls it her happy place.

Living in a town she loves, with her family and group of close-knit friends nearby, life is sweet. Until one dreadful Monday morning, when everything is turned upside down and things are changed forever.

Devastated, Florrie finds herself thrown into an unexpected situation with handsome stranger, Ed Harte, owner of a pair of twinkly navy-blue eyes and a smile that has the knack of making mischief with her insides.

Despite being fresh out of a relationship, Florrie quickly finds herself falling for him, but she’s torn, reluctant to give her heart to someone who seems intent on not sticking around.

While her heart’s doing battle with her head, Florrie soon finds herself privy to a secret with Ed involving a heart-wrenching twist they could never have imagined.

Will love find a way to bring them together, or are they destined to go their separate ways?

It’s always a joy to read novels set in an area that holds memories; therefore, I’m thrilled Ms. Scott’s new series has a Coastal Yorkshire setting.

Florrie Appleton loves her job at The Happy Hartes Bookshop in Micklewick Bay. She’s happy to both work and live in the pretty seaside town, near to her family and friends. When the elderly owner of the shop, Mr. H dies suddenly, her future is uncertain. That’s until a handsome stranger appears...

For those familiar with the author’s other works, you’ll love the encompassing cosy feeling she creates as we get to know this lovely coastal town of Micklewick Bay and its townsfolk. The descriptions of this delightful backdrop make you wish you were there, not only for the scenery but to mingle with the lovely people who live there and to sample the fish and chips!

I enjoyed the push and pull of Florrie and Ed’s attraction to one another as they came to terms with how life has thrown them together. The contrast and compatibility between the two characters are palpable and I like how they complement each other with their actions. There is, of course, a host of friends and family there, too, adding drama and heart-warming sentiment.

Overall, this is definitely, my favourite novel written by Ms. Scott, and hope there are many more trips to the North Yorkshire coast (and York) in the future.
