New Publication Spotlight & Review: The Little Bookshop By The Sea by Eliza J Scott

The Little Bookshop By The Sea by Eliza J Scott

Welcome to the Happy Hartes Bookshop in Micklewick Bay on the beautiful North Yorkshire Coast!

The Happy Hartes Bookshop has been a part of bookworm Florrie Appleton’s life as far back as she can remember. From the evocative smell of the books, to working alongside her beloved Mr H and his black Labrador, Gerty, there’s no wonder she calls it her happy place.

Living in a town she loves, with her family and group of close-knit friends nearby, life is sweet. Until one dreadful Monday morning, when everything is turned upside down and things are changed forever.

Devastated, Florrie finds herself thrown into an unexpected situation with handsome stranger, Ed Harte, owner of a pair of twinkly navy-blue eyes and a smile that has the knack of making mischief with her insides.

Despite being fresh out of a relationship, Florrie quickly finds herself falling for him, but she’s torn, reluctant to give her heart to someone who seems intent on not sticking around.

While her heart’s doing battle with her head, Florrie soon finds herself privy to a secret with Ed involving a heart-wrenching twist they could never have imagined.

Will love find a way to bring them together, or are they destined to go their separate ways?

It’s always a joy to read novels set in an area that holds memories; therefore, I’m thrilled Ms. Scott’s new series has a Coastal Yorkshire setting.

Florrie Appleton loves her job at The Happy Hartes Bookshop in Micklewick Bay. She’s happy to both work and live in the pretty seaside town, near to her family and friends. When the elderly owner of the shop, Mr. H dies suddenly, her future is uncertain. That’s until a handsome stranger appears...

For those familiar with the author’s other works, you’ll love the encompassing cosy feeling she creates as we get to know this lovely coastal town of Micklewick Bay and its townsfolk. The descriptions of this delightful backdrop make you wish you were there, not only for the scenery but to mingle with the lovely people who live there and to sample the fish and chips!

I enjoyed the push and pull of Florrie and Ed’s attraction to one another as they came to terms with how life has thrown them together. The contrast and compatibility between the two characters are palpable and I like how they complement each other with their actions. There is, of course, a host of friends and family there, too, adding drama and heart-warming sentiment.

Overall, this is definitely, my favourite novel written by Ms. Scott, and hope there are many more trips to the North Yorkshire coast (and York) in the future.

Release Day Spotlight & Review: Tell That To My Heart by Eliza J. Scott

Tell That To My Heart (Heartshaped Book 1) by Eliza J. Scott
Jemima Dewberry wears her heart on her sleeve. Her weakness for bad boys, coupled with her track record for making bad decisions has led to endless heartbreak. The only trouble is, she can’t seem to kick the habit.

On top of that, her “dream” job at Yorkshire Portions magazine hasn’t turned out to be what she’d hoped, and she seems to have developed the knack of annoying her boss without even trying. It doesn’t help that the new girl seems to have taken an instant dislike to her. All that’s keeping her there are her best friends Anna-Lisa and Aidey, who have picked up the pieces of her shattered heart more times than they care to remember.

When Jemima’s latest boyfriend turns out to be no better than the rest, the hurt and humiliation is almost unbearable. She declares she’s finally through with love, and swears off men for life. But when charismatic Caspar De Verre walks into the office with his dangerous good looks and mesmerising smile, she’s utterly captivated, and her promises to Anna-Lisa and Aidey not to let her heart rule her head are soon forgotten.

But is Caspar all he seems? Anna-Lisa and Aidey have their doubts. And Herbert, the happy-go-lucky black Labrador Jemima’s looking after, doesn’t seem to like him either.

As Jemima falls for Caspar’s charms she finds herself being forced to confront the struggle between her head and her heart. But which one will prove the most powerful?

And will Jemima get the happy-ever-after she so desperately craves?

Tell That To My Heart is the first book in the Heartshaped series set in delightful North Yorkshire.

Jemima 'Mim' Dewberry thought landing her dream job at Yorkshire Portions magazine was a dream come true. However, working there hasn't lived up to her expectations. When two new employees arrive; Caspar De Verre and Honey Blossom Blenkinsop, one instantly sends her heart racing, while the other is a reminder of a broken heart she suffered. When items begin to go missing in the office, Mim's shocked to find someone is trying to frame her. In addition, her new beau has a strange request. Thankfully, her friends are close by to help her work everything out and to make her realise what she always wanted, has been there all along.

This novel has a little bit of everything, mystery, deceit, lies and romance, as Mim's work life becomes more chaotic than it usually is. Aidey and Anna-Lisa are her close friends and allies at Yorkshire Portions who loyally help to protect her against their volatile employer, Catherine. Herbert, her four-legged friend is an equally loyal companion and an exquisite judge of character. With humour, despair, heartbreak and hope, There's a heart-warming happy ending, and promises of new beginnings.

One aspect I adore about Ms Scott's novels is their settings. The backdrop for this one is York, a city I know well and one I haven't had a chance of visiting in a long while. I enjoy the familiarity of revisiting a favourite place whilst getting to know the endearing characters who live and work there.

To sum up, Tell That To My Heart is a sterling start in what promises to be a delightful series.

Eliza is proud to be a member of the RNA. She lives in a 17th-century cottage in a village in the North Yorkshire Moors with her husband, their two daughters and two mischievous black Labradors. When she’s not writing, she can usually be found with her nose in a book/glued to her Kindle or working in her garden, fighting a losing battle against the weeds.

When she's not reading or gardening, Eliza also enjoys bracing walks in the countryside, rounded off by a visit to a teashop where she can indulge in another two of her favourite things: tea and cake.

Her biggest weakness is ginger biscuits dunked in tea.

Eliza is inspired by her beautiful surroundings and loves to write heartwarming romance stories with relatable female characters. She enjoys exploring the dynamics of female friendship, with a key feature of her books being how women pull together and support one another when things get tough.

Eliza's novels will always have happy endings.

Review: A Christmas Kiss by Eliza J. Scott

A Christmas Kiss by Eliza J Scott

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

When Zander Gillespie checks to see if his rental cottage is free, he's beyond happy when it is. With his live-in girlfriend abandoning him to go to London instead of their planned trip to spend the holidays with his family in Carcasonne, France, Zander decides to avoid his family's questions about his absent girlfriend and heads to his cottage with his canine pal, Alf. However, on arrival, he's shocked to find his cottage occupied… with a single female!

With a cheating boyfriend and a less than friendly family, Livvie decides to get away for the Christmas holidays and makes a last-minute reservation for a rental cottage in the beautiful Yorkshire village of Lytell Stangdale. First impressions, her accommodation outshines her expectations and she quickly makes herself at home. Only, she's shocked when a male stranger to walk in on her whilst she's soaking in the bath!

Another trip to Lytell Stangdale… I always get a slight feeling of homesickness when reading of Ms Scott's novels. The Yorkshire Moors backdrop, the dialect and details remind me of home. This time around her descriptions reminded me of the weather outside my window. Seemingly, winter conditions on the Yorkshire Moors are very similar to ones I have here in Norway, complete with icy impassable roads and seeing roedeer out and about; in my case in the garden!

Oh, how I love a flawed hero and Zander Gillespie is a card wearing member of that club. He first caught my eye in book 3, Violet's Story, so was super excited to discover he was getting his own book. He's the perfect textbook book boyfriend until he isn't! He's the type who tries to do the best he can but somehow fails. In this instance, his action is almost unforgivable. Thankfully, he's humble, sincere and owns up to his faults. Livvie is a heroine you can't fail to root for. Despite her background and the life she's temporarily escaped from, she's delightful and a fun person to be around. The contrast in their backgrounds makes them unlikely pair so I enjoyed how Alf managed to play a significant part in getting the strangers together romantically.

Full of Christmassy feels, this is my favourite novel in this series so far. It's fun to catch-up with the familiar cast of supporting characters. Those who know the series will already adore them. However, this is standalone, so you can enjoy Livvie and Zander's romance without a previous visit to the Life on the Moors series. Although I strongly recommend you read them all.

New Release Spotlight: The Secret - Violet's Story by Eliza J. Scott

The Secret – Violet’s Story by Eliza J. Scott

It’s been two years since glamorous and ambitious Violet Smith fell head-over-heels in love with blacksmith Jimby Fairfax, and moved back home to the North Yorkshire village of Lytell Stangdale to be with him.

Life couldn’t get much sweeter. Their romance is blooming and Romantique - the business she set up with Jimby’s sister Kitty, designing luxurious underwear and burlesque costumes with the odd wedding dress throw in - is thriving.

But on a romantic weekend break, a face from her past triggers a series of events which send Violet into turmoil. She finds herself with no alternative but to reveal a secret she’s buried deep for the past sixteen years. A secret she hasn’t shared with anyone, not even her best friends, Kitty and Molly, and they share everything.

With the revelation forcing a wedge between herself and Jimby, heartbroken Violet fears that he won’t ever be able to think of her in the same way again and won’t want anything more to do with her.

As ever, Kitty and Molly rally round, offering their advice and support but Vi is worried that keeping her secret was just a step too far for Jimby.

Will she succeed in showing him their love is strong enough to overcome it?

The Secret – Violet’s Story is book 3 in the Life on the Moors Series.

This is my third "Life on the Moors" novel as we head back to the delightful community of Lytell Stangdale.

Secrets from the past come back to haunt Violet Smith at the very time she and Jimby Fairfax decide to make their relationship more permanent. A face from the past returns and re-opening long-buried memories. With a shattered dream and decisions to make, will the pair be able to find a way to their happily-ever-after?

There may be trouble brewing in this small North Yorkshire community, but somehow they all manage to work through their daily troubles and strife with compassion, support and humour. The issues faced are relatable, as are the ways they are resolved. A new, gorgeous guy's introduced and I have a feeling we'll be hearing more about him soon...There is a miracle too and creates a perfect ending.

On the surface, glamorous Vi and Jimby seem like the most unlikely couple. Certainly, Jimby isn't a stereotypical romantic hero, it's refreshing. Like the previous features couples in the series, they are likeable in the same way as friends are...people you trust and love.

The strength of Ms Scott's writing is with the character's she's developed during this series and how they all work together as an ensemble. The dialogue is hilarious as the banter bounces between the protagonists and the secondary characters. The scenarios offer intrigue as well as daily life and the occasional mishap. The overall feeling is light, breezy and fun.

Whether you've discovered the delights of this series already, or curious to read The Secret, this like the other novels can be read as standalone. However, I recommend reading Kitty and Molly's stories first to enhance the overall appeal for this delightful series set in a beautiful part of England. It's a friendly place you wished you were a part of, I know I am!

New Release Spotlight & Review: The Talisman-Molly's Story by Eliza J. Scott

THE TALISMAN – MOLLY’S STORY by Eliza J. Scott

Molly’s dream of taking over her childhood home at Withrin Hill Farm with husband Pip and their three children has finally come true. And, as they settle into the stunning Georgian farmhouse, with their plans to diversify into glamping nicely taking shape, the family couldn’t be happier.
But tragedy suddenly strikes, and Molly’s world is turned upside down.

Heartbroken and devastated, she struggles to face each day. True to form, her fiercely loyal best friends, Kitty and Violet, rally round offering love and support, but Molly doesn’t think she’ll ever be able to smile again. Until the day a tall, dark stranger with twinkly eyes arrives…

Follow Molly’s story in book 2 of the Life on the Moors Series set in Lytell Stangdale, a picture-perfect village in the heart of the North Yorkshire Moors, where life is anything but quiet.

A heart-warming story of love, friendship and hope.

Revisiting Lytell Stangdale is an unmissable opportunity. The Talisman-Molly's Story is the second instalment in The Life on the Moors series and is standalone.

Molly first met Camm when she was fifteen years old. Saving him from bullies, her reward was a kiss as well as half of a talisman with a promise they would meet again one day. Years later, she's trying to re-start her life after a tragedy, never guessing the boy she saved all those years ago would find his way back into her life and help her love again.

The poignancy of Molly's life-changing event is heartfelt. Ms Scott captures the emotions experienced by this otherwise, feisty woman as she comes to terms with her loss and the huge burden of responsibility she now has to shoulder to keep her childhood home, Withrin Hill farm running. For those who read Kitty's Story, you will be familiar with the strong supportive ensemble of secondary characters and they are definitely there for their friend as she slowly starts to pull her life back together with the generosity of kindness, love and friendship.

If you like a wild, rugged looking hero, Camm is the one for you. With Gypsy heritage, he has stoically weathered his fair share of sadness and tragedy too. Meeting up with Molly again, they have common ground to rebuild their lives and to make a future together.

Despite the tragic event plot thread, the narrative is upbeat, light-hearted and humorous. Molly and those close to her are relatable as they all deal with twenty-first-century issues. The narrative flows beautifully, littered with entertaining dialogue with Yorkshire words I'd long forgotten, but quickly remembered. A glossary for those unfamiliar with the charms of this English dialect is supplied, however, Ms Scott has written in a way, most words or terms are self-explanatory.

To sum up, a delightful story set in a lovely part of England. If you enjoy reading books with a small town, strong community backdrop, complemented by a colourful cast of characters, The Life on the Moors books are definitely must read novels.
