56% on Kindle: The Hating Game a Novel by Sally Thorne

I want to know why you were so sad today, Shortcake.” It's uncanny how he senses shifts in my mood.
I just was. I was thinking about everything at stake for me.”
Tell me.”
I can't. You're my nemesis.”
You're awfully snuggly with your nemesis.” It's true I'm snuggling.
I don't want to talk about me. We never talk about you. I probably don't know anything about you.”

(blurb from Goodreads)
Nemesis (n.)
1) An opponent or rival whom a person cannot best or overcome;
2) A person’s undoing;
3) Joshua Templeman.
Lucy Hutton and Joshua Templeman hate each other. Not dislike. Not begrudgingly tolerate. Hate. And they have no problem displaying their feelings through a series of ritualistic passive aggressive maneuvers as they sit across from each other, executive assistants to co-CEOs of a publishing company. Lucy can’t understand Joshua’s joyless, uptight, meticulous approach to his job. Joshua is clearly baffled by Lucy’s overly bright clothes, quirkiness, and Pollyanna attitude.

Now up for the same promotion, their battle of wills has come to a head and Lucy refuses to back down when their latest game could cost her her dream job…But the tension between Lucy and Joshua has also reached its boiling point, and Lucy is discovering that maybe she doesn’t hate Joshua. And maybe, he doesn’t hate her either. Or maybe this is just another game.

About the Book Blogger Hop

The Book Blogger Hop was originally created by Jennifer from Crazy-For-Books in March 2010 and ended on December 31, 2012. With Jennifer's permission, I relaunched the meme on February 15, 2013.

Each week the hop will start on a Friday and end on Thursday. There will be a weekly prompt featuring a book related question. The hop's purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to your own blog.

Question: 15th - 21st - You have just won a $100.00 Visa gift card. Will you spend the entire amount on a rare collector's edition you have always wanted, or buy several newly-published books? Explain your choice. (submitted by Maria @ A Night's Dream of Books)

Answer: I like buying books, but I'm not so interested in owning a collectable first edition/rare edition. If I was a serious collector, I very much doubt $100 would be enough to secure such a purchase...it depends on the author.

I would probably spend the gift card on books I'd like to read that have been too expensive to buy...outside my reading budget. I may also look to see if a favourite book has been published in hardback because I love owning those. Therefore, I wouldn't restrict my options to only buying newly published books. My choices would be flexible.

Question: 11th - 17th - Could you ever pick a favorite book or is it like choosing your favorite child? (submitted by Elizabeth @ Silver's Reviews)

Answer: I don't have a stand out favourite book as an adult.  I've read so many over the years and whilst there are many to which I'm attached to for whatever reason, there isn't one I view as my all-time number one.

Yet, as a child, the one which brings happy memories is The Silver Sword (Escape from Warsaw) by Ian Serraillier. It was a book we read in our English class aged 12 (yr7) Unlike other books I was forced to read at school, this one was enjoyable and a pleasant memory. Now nearly forty years later, I can still remember the plot, which is testament to the impact it had even though I've only read it once.

Question:  Do you ever feel like you have emerged better for reading a book? (submitted by Rubina @ Booklove)

Answer: Yes. I love reading books where I learn something new. It can be opinions, facts or even a recipe. It doesn't necessarily make me feel better in a physical sense, but in a feel-good way knowing my knowledge base has grown a tiny bit more.

56% on my Kindle:

Today he'd pronounced us ready, and we were leaving Eve behind to await her mysterious dinner companion.
What do you think?” I asked Finn, sliding into the front seat. “Is it Captain Camerson she's meeting?”
Wouldn't be surprised.”

1947. In the chaotic aftermath of World War II, American college girl Charlie St. Clair is pregnant, unmarried, and on the verge of being thrown out of her very proper family. She's also nursing a desperate hope that her beloved cousin Rose, who disappeared in Nazi-occupied France during the war, might still be alive. So when Charlie's parents banish her to Europe to have her "little problem" taken care of, Charlie breaks free and heads to London, determined to find out what happened to the cousin she loves like a sister.

1915. A year into the Great War, Eve Gardiner burns to join the fight against the Germans and unexpectedly gets her chance when she's recruited to work as a spy. Sent into enemy-occupied France, she's trained by the mesmerizing Lili, the "Queen of Spies", who manages a vast network of secret agents right under the enemy's nose.
Thirty years later, haunted by the betrayal that ultimately tore apart the Alice Network, Eve spends her days drunk and secluded in her crumbling London house. Until a young American barges in uttering a name Eve hasn't heard in decades, and launches them both on a mission to find the truth...no matter where it leads.

Question: Have you ever thought of writing a respectful, but angry letter to an author to ask them WHY they killed off one of your favorite characters in a novel? (submitted by Maria @ A Night's Dream of Books)

AnswerNO, absolutely not! I know others will disagree, but as I write myself (unpublished), I respect the author's creative right to choose how they write their character's. Thousands of people can read the same text, but we'll all see and interpret things differently from each other. Therefore, whilst I may be upset about the death of a character, I understand others will view the termination differently. It's a 'you can't please everyone' scenario and as such, I don't feel it necessary to question an author's decision to terminate a character.

Question: How do you organize your books for review? Does it work for you or have you had to change it? (submitted by Elizabeth @ Silver's Reviews)

Answer: I have all my blog schedule on Google Calendar and use different colours for different types of posts. Reviews are RED. As I live in Norway, all arc's are ebooks. If a galley comes from Edelweiss+ I post a reminder for myself to read and write the review before the galley expires as they are time critical...usually one week before the deadline. Other than that, I read them according to my mood, so not necessarily in date order either for publication or download. Also, I don't tend to write reviews as soon as a book is finished because I need time to 'digest' the narrative. Therefore, I change the calendar colour to ORANGE until the review and posts are written and uploaded...always done to meet the publication date or a date arranged with the publisher/Pr Company.

Question: Is there a fictitious town in a book that you would love to live in? What makes it appealing? (submitted by Elizabeth @ Silver's Reviews)

Answer: I read so many books and have been lucky enough to visit many places over the years so I can't think of anywhere either fictional or realife I'd like to visit based on a book setting. I love the feeling of nostalgia, if a book is set in a place I've visited. I'm racking my brains to think of somewhere but I'm coming up blank.

Question: Do you overextend yourself with too many reviews because you can't pass up a book in hopes you will get them all done or do you carefully plan and be sure you can fulfill the deadlines for all the promised reviews? (submitted by Elizabeth @ Silver's Reviews)

Answer: As a blogger, I aim to be professional. Therefore I make sure that I meet the expectations of the author/publisher/PR company. I dislike declining books but missing a deadline isn't an option. I've worked hard to get access the titles that are available to me as a reviewer and I wouldn't like to lose that privilege or trust. I use Google calendar to plan my blog and reading activity around my life in general. It works for me.

Question: How many book clubs do you belong to? If you do belong to an in-person book club, do you have meetings in the day or evening? Do you meet at someone's house or meet at a local restaurant or coffee house?

Answer: I belong to two online book clubs. Sadly, because my real life friends don't read, and I live in a rural area there is no in-person book club to attend.

Book Blogger Hop: 23rd-29th March 2018

 23rd - 29th - (submitted by Maria @ A Night's Dream of Books)

Question: When meeting with friends, do your discussions usually turn to books?

Answer: Hardly Ever. My real life friends are not readers. Online friends are the ones who read and people I've become connected to in the book world.

Book Blogger Hop: 16th-22nd March 2018

Question:  Who is your favorite children's books author and why?

Answer: Enid Blyton. Why? Her books made me fall in love with reading before the age of nine. I still have all the books of hers that I read and even though they are rather dated by todays standards, I'm still very fond of them. The Faraway Tree was one of my earlier favourites before discovering the Mallory Towers, St Clare & The Famous Five  series . All These books were escapism as I read about the highs and lows of living away from home and the excitement of the forbidden midnight feasts and magical discoveries.
If I was to ask the same question to my eleven year old son, his reply would be the writing colaboration called Erin Hunter. He loves the Warrior Cat books and has read twenty seven of them in the past eighteen months. Any authors books that entice and encourage children to read for fun is a favourite of mine.

Book Blogger Hop: 9th-15th February 2018

Question:  What authors have you met and where?

Answer: Unfortunately because I live in Norway, I haven't had a chance to meet any authors yet. I had planned and bought a ticket to attend #RARE18 in Rome in June, but due to the date clashing with the beginning of the Summer holidays here, I am unable to get neither an affordable flight or one using airline reward points. So for now, my unsigned books will remain on my bookshelf and hopefully someday in the future, they get personalised.

Book Blogger Hop: 2nd-8th February 2018

Question:  Do you prefer to blog about (a) specific book genre(s), or do you have an eclectic blog?

Answer: I started out by promoting only Contemporary Romance. As time has passed, I added Historical Romance too. Now, after looking around and reading other book blogs, I've become inspired to not only promote other genres, but to read them too. Now I've added suspense and anything that takes my fancy within the paranormal/fantasy/dystopian genres.  I've also enjoyed reading more literary fiction by going back to my reading roots as a young adult. So I may have started out as a blog for one genre, I'm now more eclectic.

Book Blogger Hop: 26th January-1st February 2018

Question:  Do you ever go back to older posts and change things?

Answer: Yes, but not very often.  Sometimes posts need updating because the information or opinion given at the time has changed. Older posts can still be read so if it comes to light something needs to change, I'll amend.

Book Blogger Hop: 19th-25th January 2018

Question:  When reading a mass paperback book, many people fold the cover back, as if they were reading a magazine. Doing this will eventually create creases in the spine. How do you feel about this common bookish habit?

Answer: I'm not bothered because a creased book is a book that has been read and hopefully loved. I know they don't look as tidy on a bookshelf but surely they are there to be enjoyed? Also, it can be difficult reading a brand new paperback and you need the break the spine to make it feel better in your hands?  That's my excuse and a habit I'll continue.
